Hello all

Has anyone ever tried using acrylics and oils on the same painting? Is this idea potentially bad or is it ok?

Thanks,
Chuck

Just remember to never put acrylics over oils. The only real problem you might have is that, well, oils look different than acrylics. This might be noticeable if a section is don with oils and another with acrylics.

Ditto the above. In most of my oil paintings, I start with a base wash/block-in of acrylic. It is quick, fast drying and allows me to experiment before applying oils. Just be cautious of not putting too thick a layer of acrylic. You want the oil to adhere well. And do not ever work with acrylic over oils. Once you are done using acrylics on the piece and apply oils, don't use the acrylics again. (The old oil & water thing applies.) http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif

hi there,
you know acrylic's chemical based on water and oil's is based on oil ..and these two never can be used at the same time ..
DO NOT study with ACRYLİC on a OİL painting.on the other hand -it is sure that you cannot get the colors like oil does when you paint with acrylic-
you may begin the painting with acrylic and make the final with oil.Thats the spirit..
