I knew I could only manage a pencil drawing so I thought the rose was my best bet because of the superb light and shadow in the ref photo. After more than 2 hours of tweedling and erasing, here's what I got. I dare say it looks a tad better IRL because it's easier to ignore the mis-shaded portions.

Approx. 5x6 on WC card.

Thanks for looking!

Ey, Beth! Thanks for hosting!

Joel,

This is a beautiful drawing. Don't see a tad of "mis-shading" here. Excellent work.

Thanks Susan, Beth, Paula and Linn. I manged to do another one, this one the barn in watercolor on a 6x9 WC paper. Feels good to use the brush again after such a long time.

The barn is great, Joel!!! I love that you included the beautiful Colorado sky. The day I took these pictures, the sun had just come out after 2 days of misty rain & I was sooooo happy!

You should not neglect your painting time, Joel! I know lawyers work crazy, long hours and you have young children, but this barn is really wonderful! Can you get that same feeling from doing anything else? I think not! :D

Thanks for participating this weekend, Joel! :)

Wonderful job on both!

I guess you don't see many barns like that in your regular every day life ... either in Europe or at home ? :)

Thanks Everyone!

Yes Beth, the satisfaction we get from finishing any painting (bad or good) is proceless, and I am heeding your advise by at least coming up with one artwork per week. Just a little sacrifice by waking up earlier than everybody else on weekends!

Bot EP, we don't have many barns around here - at least not as nice looking as the one in the ref photo. I saw a lot of those when we drove from New York all the way up to Toronto, Canada many years ago.

Good plan, Joel. That's how I do mine. I get up a little earlier than DH and paint. I usually quit when he gets up. It works really well for me. :p
