Wow, that second photo is very good!!! I'll do these in a bit.

Yes, these do have a lovely warm weather feeling. I'll try and do something with one or even two of these. Are these meant to be done in any kind of Master style or just self style?

Super summer images, Janet.
Do you see this as a one or two month project? Up to you!

June, two months might be good with vacations and all.
I'm going to try all four if I can. I' m hooked on the little dog and towel in the background of the teen on the beach and the birds on top of the statue.
Xina, this project is self style all the way. You can even be inspired by a photo, and do a memory or chop a bit off and paint that. Do what you feel, in any medium. It will be great to see what you come up with.
Sandra, the flowers are beautiful and very fragile looking. Hope you find time to do them.

Xina, yes, do join in too.
Here's my first one. I've been experimenting on what surface to use for Derwent Graphitint and I am enjoying this Artist Marker Pad that I got from Aquabee /aka Bee Company at 110 lbs and it's smoother than Bristol Smooth 300 series. Technically, it's better to have some tooth for Derwent but I sometimes tired of the medium tooth look.
I can't scan it because the blue and red disappears on me and I can't lighten the photo because it would give me strange colors on the hair. This is more or less what it is like but it's white in real life background wise.

four great opportunities here, Janet.
Sandra, that is nice, the quiet momemt in captured well in her body language. I love the upper thighs and the bent of her head....thanks

I love the work on the beach-girl pose. Sandra, you've given the girl a slender elegance.
Mette, I love the way your girl is so engrossed. Collecting shells?

Thank you,artbyjune. :)

Same beach girl with different takes. Very nice Sandra...Mette, love the extra touches.

Mette, very nice watercolors. Yours is on a hot day definitely and mine is on a cloudy day! You even gave her very toned muscles. Nice job there on the upper arm.

Thank you,Robin :)

Here is a start for me....

Beautiful Janet. She reminds me of a fairy in a children's story. Love the birds too!
07-05-2009, 01:13 PM
Thanks June, here's a quickie in acrylics...
07-06-2009, 09:45 AM
Both very nice Janet - the blanket looks like its about to soar off. But the chair says nothin' doin' .....love it!!
The girl and the fountain is begging color. Looking forward to that, maybe.

Hi Janet. A lovely sunny day at the beach-with gulls, I wish I was there today.
07-06-2009, 03:54 PM
Thanks Robin and June...Hoping to add some color to the bird girl soon. I really have to get a camera...scanning makes colors come out all weird, like the green on the pier yukkk!

Finally got to this one tonight. Watercolours, 8 by 12 ins . Just kept it fairly plain in technique.
But it took a while to get the preparatory drawing to look right. I'm not posting the pencil drawing of it tonight as I am t-i-r-e-d. Needing a break.:D

looks real good June. Yes, the position looks simple but it would be easy to make something too long or too short .
07-09-2009, 08:02 AM
Looks good to me June, but I've been avoiding this one because I knew I'd have a problem with the body (I'm so chicken) Might try the lttle dog on the towel. though. :)
07-09-2009, 11:51 AM
Thanks Janet and Robin. I can see I made her reaching arm a bit long, but hey I think, look at the long arms on Cezanne's paintings of men...Seriously, tho, I would shorten it a little IF I was doing it over.
I have sea and sky in the background...the scan cut off the top and bottom...but I think maybe it looks better just the girl on sand and no sea/sky stuff at all.
Janet I was going to just do the dog on the towel(before I got carried away with the pose of the girl)..doggy would be good to do!!
07-14-2009, 12:39 AM
I knew this would not be easy to draw. The foreshortening on the left leg was tricky- not sure it is right .
07-14-2009, 06:52 AM
There's the doggie. Everyone picked the girl to paint, even though she was, I thought, the most difficult. Very nice soft rendition Robin.
Hope I can get a couple more done here before the month is up. Bet the flowers would look great in egg tempera.
07-14-2009, 05:21 PM
Lovely work. Robin. You got the girl's body very well.
07-15-2009, 01:19 AM
Janet, the acrylic is very colorful. And you gave it a few more birds. It increased the interest.
June, the lady on the beach has great colors! Great shadowing too.
Robin, you got the lady posture totally and you even put the dog in. Nice. Her arm near us is especially well done.

I'm not very patient with flowers but I like doing statues. As you could see, I abandoned the flower after drawing two and put the statue behind it. Improvised on the shading and the seed pod she was holding.
07-17-2009, 10:32 PM
Thanks everyone for the comments.....I sketched the body 3 times miserably.....then reverted to the grid approach....works everytime. That pooch is mighty cute though - might do one of just him before the month is up.
Sandra - nice combination - interesting with her hiding....I keep wanting to look around the flower but she insists on evading me..........I like all the texture and form here. It looks like you had a fun little adventure.
07-18-2009, 08:48 AM
Sandra...like your interpretation of the statue with two flowers very much. It's interesting to see what everyone makes of given subjects.
07-19-2009, 02:29 PM
Thank you, Janet, Robin, for your comments.

Lovely drawings. Both have the fairy in a different 'mood'. I like the 3D effect in the bowl, Robin. I like the romantic feeling in your drawing, newbreeze!
08-01-2009, 09:02 PM
New Breeze - nice one- you did a good job on the fairy - mine ended up looking like Marylin Monroe eeeeeek
