I have a new painting I've worked on for a couple of hours today, in between dinner, mowing the lawn and putting the kids to bed . Probably around 8-10 hours worth...did some erasing and fixing but am okay with the end result...Might still tweak some more once this layer dries. I will be getting better pictures in the daylight outside, without a flash, lol...The sides will be painted black.

Acrylics on Canvas 16" x 20"

C&C??

Thanks so much Kathrin!

It was suggested a bright paint for the sides, so I may go with yellow or orange instead of black-- here are some better pictures (and although I am admittedly a good amateur photographer, I cannot seem to take a good pic of this painting--I think its because of the colors and how the light reflects off of it but I'm not sure!)

Some detail shots...its quite textured.

Alishia. I like the colours very much. There are also some nice textures going on there in the background

Thank you very much Chammi! :) I am glad you like the colours! Yes, the background was layered with cadmium red, cadmium yellow and an orange and I used plastic wrap and pushed and played and allowed it to almost dry before I removed the wrap (about 2-4 hours) and then once it completely dried, I went on with the rest of the painting. I knew I wanted black on top of those colors but it was turned out too heavy, so I splashed some permanent rose in there too ;).

I like the design and palette, plus lovely texture, if I were painting the sides I'd continue the background colour for preference, I nearly always continue some of the design around the sides for a 3D effect, and try and use 1.5inch sides for the best effect.
I think even plain red or orange would look better than black.
It's a nice stylish painting.
Jane.

Thank you very much Jane and yes, after some discussion with others I have decided to try and go with orange for the sides instead of black, which can apparently make it seem quite flat. This is 1" deep so not too much room for design but I'll see what I can do :D.

I like the colours and the texture too. Warm and welcoming ...the red is a good lead into the copmposition.
