View Full Version : At the Falls

Iíve been toying with the idea of bears catching salmon. fishermen fly fishing and even a float plane or a small log cabin with a warm glow coming from the window. But knowing how I like to over paint everything I think I will live with this one for awhile. 24 x 36 acrylic on canvas. C&C always welcome or any other good ideas.

WoW! Some of the best painted falls I've seen; the lay of the land and water is wonderful and so are your colors. Beautiful work!

Great composition, beautiful impressionist strokes. The value system is kind of reversed. This piece is dark at the top and lighter at the bottom. The sky needs lightening as well as the mountain. The foreground could be darkened at the corners. This would add depth to the work. I assume you worked from a reference photo. Use your artistic license as photos rarely translate to a fine art piece if copied too closely. The other element that is missing is a definitive light source. I would recommend from left to right. Adding more mid values and highlights would make this work SING.

Don't over embellish it. Perhaps a bear in the foreground and leave it at that.

Lovely landscape! I agree with Carol, don't add too much, this piece already stands on its own. Whatever you choose, let it be subtle :)

Lovely painting, the only thing that really catches my eye, is the water going uphill to the falls.
Very nice work! I agree with George - would like to see the b/g lightened up and more highlights on those trees. Other than that, it doesn't need a thing!

WOW this is beautiful!! I love it as it is, yes very serene, but a bear would make it very intersting!

First let me thank everyone who committed and left concerns for improvement. It really helps and spurs me to do better. Thank you all so much. My little point and shoot camera leaves some to be desired when it comes to focus and color. I reshot it using a tripod and some color adjustment in PS looks about the same as the painting.

That is a superb painting. Apart from the falls, I love the rocks. Terrific brushstrokes.
