Hello Artists!

The weekly pastel sketch thread is for pastelists of all levels who use soft pastels, hard pastels, or pastel pencils.

The idea is to fit some sketching time into your week by completing a sketch in one hour or less. You can sketch anything, whether it be from life or photos.

It's a good idea to time your sketch, keeping it within 60 minutes. You know how time flies when you are creating. So get your pastels out, set your timer, and when your time is up, please post your sketches here and share your efforts with us.

Since I'm doing this crazy series of fast square paintings, I thought I'd share the one I did yesterday for you all to see...

9x9", on white Pastelmat, using nothing but my PanPastels. I allowed myself 40 minutes, start to finish.

There's a whole series of these shown here (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=562797). I'm trying to challenge myself to move fast to keep things fresh. I'd love to know your reaction, here and/or there!

Thanks...
Deborah

Just beautiful Deborah! Pastelmat? I think I've heard of it, but thought it was only made overseas.

A European friend sent me a couple pads of it. You can't get it here in the US, as far as I know. Maybe someday! I kind of hope so, since it's a bit like La Carte, though softer, a little like suede mat, though not as deep, and it takes water or solvents, unlike either of those.

Thanks--glad you like the painting, Paula. Take a peek at the others on the thread, too.

Nt ones, Deborah...I did look at the ones you gave the link for....quite a task you have set for yourself....but really well-done.

I di this one for the Landscape Challenge...Old Stockholm... not too happy with the perspective, and I never have been able to draw a straight line... but this WAS a challenge. Have to admit it took me much more than an hour, though...rubbing out and adding in...
anyway...here it is...

I just had a phone call from Paula tonight - her internet connection is down and it won't be fixed for a few days.

Donna T or I will be checking in to see that you're all working hard :)

Judibelle - I saw that photo and I think you did a credible job - almost abstract with some unusual colors. good job!
