GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: H1N1
Year Created:
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Board
Dimension: 11 by 14 inches
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
My depiction of the H1N1 virus loosely based on the CNN depiction.Created this with several washes and some dabbing with a rag.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Does this depiction strike you as a virulent pandemic virus,..or perhaps a little too ephemeral?

Honestly, I'm not really feeling this one. I'm finding that there's not really enough variation in color to hold my interest real well. I think I'd like to see some highlights in places to add interest, and a little more variation in the basic green and purple. Otherwise, I can see your purpous clearly, and its not overly abstract.

shouldn't there be hoof prints and little curly tails?....er.....sorry for the levity, it just seems as subject matter, surpassingly beyond my mental reach as a painting subject. The colors are nice, they are compliments, and the patterns are well placed....

a little too messy for a virus, i think they're usually quite contained in organization, microscopically speaking

i see more an aerial photo of trees on a sand island and pink sea/ground around and would suggest a possible addition might be throwing some dull yellow around to counter said pink

imho :)

Very interesting and original. The dualism of contra concepts, the same image causes, beauty/disgust etc. grows a grand tention, and makes it a good piece of art.

I think you need a cooler transition under the snout and the left hoof seems smaller than the right.

Well...very much thanks for all of your comments..this virus has gathered more responses than I have ever had for a painting ...and I will certainly make changes...hmmm...a tree covered island ..I may go that way on this..thanks all...Brian

Talk about your leading edge social awareness art!

Not sure it has more than social awareness, though. Has the mundane visual interest of a close-up of a virus. Sorry, don't find much in the way of visual appeal. Maybe more colours. etc.

I think the green and the lavender-pink are not colors that successfully represent virulence. They are too calming and serene - you need some nasty colors to make this work better IMO.
