Hello Artists!

The weekly pastel sketch thread is for pastelists of all levels who use soft pastels, hard pastels, or pastel pencils.

The idea is to fit some sketching time into your week by completing a sketch in one hour or less. You can sketch anything, whether it be from life or photos.

It's a good idea to time your sketch, keeping it within 60 minutes. You know how time flies when you are creating. So get your pastels out, set your timer, and when your time is up, please post your sketches here and share your efforts with us.

Here's a 5 x7 on canson paper. It suppose to be a bend in a creek with reflections in the water. My ten year old daughter can see the image and she likes it- but for me I'm not that thrilled with it. The farther away you are, the better the image shows.

Hi Ron, I agree with your daughter - this is very nice! I love the loose, impressionistic look and wish I could sketch like this or paint like this. Nice, rich colors too. Will you use this as a study for a painting? I hope so!

Ron, I just had to look at this again. I hope you don't mind, but I cropped it on the lines you had drawn. Now picture this nicely matted and in a classy frame. I hope you're liking it a little better!

Donna- Thanks so much- I think the sketch may be growing on me:) I may have to try a larger version and still try to keep it impressionistic. I have the problem of overworking things! One of the reasons why I enjoy the sketch thread!

thanks, Donna....I'm thinking of doing it again, on a larger paper. This one is about 7x10....a bit small.

Great one Judibelle. Those greens and pinks make a good combination.
