View Full Version : Red Lily Revisited (I hope)

Okay all, I did not paint it over.
After reading the comments, I put this painting aside for a few days and started to work on it anew.
I removed most of the lily 0f the Valley( I am kind of thinking that the last one will go as well), and have worked on the petals of the main lily working mainly on the highlights.
I still have to do the leaves etc, but I am rather pleased with the flower.
Here it is with the original just below.
Who says Do your stuff all, it is so helpful!

That's a fabulous improvement. It's really taking shape now and does not come across as flat. The form has come forward in your edited version. I like that one Lily of the Valley.

Good work!

This is lovely Kathleen. You are going to be a flower EXPERT in no time. Keep at it, I can't think of a better subject to explore. Cheers, Derek

Thanks Derek.
And a very Big thanks to you Gayle.
I know that I can always get a big push from you (in either direction) when I need it and know that kindness is behind it!

I just had to leave it alone and forget about it for a while as I was going around in circles with it!

What I did was lay down painters tape along the lines that the light was coming from, and highlighted the raised part of the petals within those lines blending to fade after the tape was removed.

Gads, learning is a toughie, but it sure is a pleasure when it works!:wink2:

http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/spezial/kdchat/wow.gif (http://www.clicksmilies.com) And you got the shiny/velvety look their petals have!!

I am so glad you did not paint over it!! This is so pretty.

Did ya feel the "but" coming???.... You know I did have to play. :o it's what I do.

I kind of think the lily of the valley pulls out the lights in the center? So I tried this? Obviously I bow to the talent that you have...cause I cannot do flowers....it is just a suggestion!

Big hugs to you, my friend...you work so hard to make it look so easy!!!

 How about everyone votes on the Lily of the Valley thing?
I like both!
Thanks Kathrin & Sue, I am getting there, Hopefully I live to be a 100 years old, and by then I will know something.

I still vote for one ... or add another right with the one you have but don't start making a pinwheel again. It draws too much attention away from the primary focus IMHO.

Much nicer Kathleen. I like the petals and how they bend and twist. Lovely. Colour is really good too.

I was thinking two more lily of the valley, right where Susan put them.

I agree with the three, it gives it a little curve to the comp.
