Hi folks,
At long last I have some work to show!
A client ordered a replica of a necklace I made a while back but with a matching bracelet and earrings. Finally finished all the beads but not too happy with the look of the designs! The dark ivory glass isn't as reactive as it used to be so that using pale transparent aqua stringer (or the trans teal) doesn't give the soft fumed effect on the ivory as it used to -
I'm hoping that there might be some change happening when I anneal them later today.
BTW The design is to have the bracelet to lengthen the necklace if the wearer so choses - so matching ss toggle clasps will allow for this. The toggles sit just on the collarbone area when the two are worn together.
Quite effective!!! It's become a bit of a 'trademark' for some of my sets.
Cheers

BTW the pieces of green rod are only a guide for me to see where the break would be between the bracelet beads and the necklace!

Wow, and here I was feeling good about making a set of 5 beads. Please, post a picture of the pieces when you finish them. I'd love to see how you put them together.

Here's a set of my latest:

I will make sure to post the finished set -
but don't write yourself down with those beautiful beads. Remember the old adage "less is often best!"
What glass did you use for those? They are so pretty I know just the lass who would love them - my daughter is the ultimate when it comes to feminine dressing and those would look so pretty with lavender and lace!!!
Cheers

Neat beads and idea Kaola.
Betsy, Do you tell the colors you used in your beads. I love the translucent look to them. You did a good job of getting all your dots even too. Onalee

It's Double Helix's Aurae. I love that glass! Depending on how the flame hits it, you get pinkish amber to dark violet, and it reduces to a shiny silver.

Thanks. I think it has a little of the look of opals. Onalee

How does it come up with a Hothead using bulk razor (MAPP) gas?
If it can be done then I need to get myself a ton of it! Especially making bead necklaces the length that my customers seem to want these days - must be the beginner of a revival of The Flapper Era - 'cept most of you won't know when that was LOL (See the movie The Great Gatsby for an idea!)
No I wasn't around then - not even as a twinkle in my Dad's eye!!! (probably in HIS father's era though!)
Cheers

And now - "the leaner"

Hi Ellen,
Love the last two - don't worry too much about the leaning aspect - I had a few of those with my first barrel beads!
I find it easy to straighten up the ends by holding my graphite paddle at an angle and keep it like that as I roll the end of the bead nearest the end of the mandrel against the mandrel and the without changing the angle move the bead so that the other end of the bead can be rolled against the to angle of the mandrel (if you get that!>?!) Heat the bead ends before each of the above stages so that they are soft enough to be manipulated but not enough for the glass to get out of control.

Because the paddle has right angles if you don't change the direction you are holding the paddle and the mandrel this gives matching (but reversed) ends on the bead. It takes a bit of playing to get into this routine but its worth playing around with it.
BTW I reckon this idea came about as I do a spot of woodturning too and getting skew chisels to produce identical but reverse curves on either end of a length of wood is not unlike finishing off the ends of a bead IMHO~~ !!
Hope this helps?
Cheers
Koala.
