View Full Version : Big Rock
There was just a thread about oils working like acrylics or acrylics working like oils. This painting, though acrylic....might have that oil look. Acrylic on canvas 20 by 24. Critiques welcome. Derekhttp://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/21-Apr-2009/183894-Arock.jpg

Great work Derek and the size fits well. Must look great IRL. What color mix are you using for the dark shadows? Looks very black on my monitor. Good water and reflections.
Thanks so much Jesslyn and Nanci. Nanci this is near Chester in Hacklebarney State Park. Cheers, Derek

Wow Derek, this is beautiful. Wonderful job on the reflections. Great work!
Tony: looks darker on the old screen...I used paynes gray, prussian blue and burnt umber in the darkest shadows. Thanks buddy. Derek....oh and thanks Jlee

Great work, wonderful feeling in this. My aim is also to paint with acrylics like oil. I am learning to paint with acrylics and use books from J. Yarnell. I use the new open acrylics. What kind of paints you use?

Exceptionally well done overall. I am especially drawn to the rocks and water, perhaps because they are among my favorite subjects for painting.

Beautiful!!! Before I realized your location and the location of this scene, I thought to myself, that looks just like the Black River! I grew up a couple of miles from Hacklebarney. You did an excellent job capturing it. Thank you!
