View Full Version : ITHALA (where I want my ashes scattered)

This is Ithala in the North of South Africa. It is one of my favourite places in the world and perhaps my ashes will be scattered there. I painted this from memory because the place just touches my soul. Liquitex acrylics on gallery wrapped canvas. Thank you for looking and sharing. All comments welcome.

Nice work. And let's not be having any talk about scattering ashes...you've too many good paintings to do before then. :)

Chammi - this is really very beautiful. It has a wonderful sense of space. I can understand why you would be drawn to a place such as this!

All I can say it is a lovely resting place for the living and the dead! I love the distance achieved in this beautiful landscape.

Ashes, hm - think will have mine mixed with potting soil and a bonsai grown in it - scotch pine :D
[interesting landscape there, Chammi...]
very very Nice, I could have sworn this was a pastel. You have a unique way with acrylics.

Very beautiful, and really remarkable that you painted this from memory!
What are the two animals in the foreground?

Absolutely beautiful landscape - it is going to make my mother homesick to see your painting as she lived a good 20 years in Ghana..... at nearly 100 years of age the memories of those years still keep her smiling.
I have a carved animal like the ones in your painting - are they elands? I'm sure I was told but I've forgotten. Quite elegant deer-like animals if the same as my hand carved image.

Very different for you but none the less very lovely. If I didn't want to be spread over my garden, this would be a good second choice.

Chammi - my husband & his family are from South Africa. From their pictures, I would say that your memory is perfect, and your painting is wonderful.

Brilliant job, especially from memory. I feel like I have forgotten to hold a brush, if I try to paint from memory :D What size is it?
Wonderful colour, composition and format.

Hi Nithya. I have been to Ithala so many times and have made so many sketches - mostly in watercolour, that it really wasn't difficult to paint it from memory . I think I would have a problem if I had only visited a place once. It is 20cm x 40cm (long panorama format). Thank you.
Arlene. Many thanks. The colours of the landscape in that lovely part of the world are always heartstopping for an artist.
