Still working on the piece from last week. Haven't gotten very far. To many things going on in my life at the moment.

Did start on the next addition to it though. So, who knows maybe a little something a little later today.

04-19-2009, 09:02 AM
Playing around a little bit to see what direction I want to go.

04-19-2009, 04:17 PM
I have a tree and a lighthouse, two different ones, I have a pic of the tree so here it is, so far.

04-19-2009, 05:55 PM
Update on the tree and the lighthouse,
The lighthouse is for the Art show, the theme is "Close to Home", can't get much closer to my home since this little bugger sits at the end of my driveway..

Good stuff everyone....I love this thread, it is filled with our hopes!:wink2:
I am working on another of my Spring series....
This one (Hopefully) will be covered with rain, (washing off the sap and allowing the leaves to emerge.)

Continuing with swans (30X40 inch, acrylic). Last week I had a really crammed schedual. I would like to put a few Koi under the water surface. I want to finish it in 3 days, working solid. This is what I have as of now.

Back from a week in Chicago, I got some more done tonight. Concentrating on the explosion and foilage right now. I have a way to go before getting to the aircraft. I'm experimenting with glossy glazing medium mixed with matte medium and color with minor success.

04-21-2009, 12:37 AM
Explosion looks great Andy, coming along nicely!

Hi everyone... I haven't been in for a while...

Here is what I'm working on. I did it for the Different Strokes challenge. I'm not confident that it is done.. I may do a little tweaking still. It's 12x16 on watercolour paper.

This is a painting I did over the weekend. Comment? Thank you, Sandyhttp://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/21-Apr-2009/181305-DSCF0138.JPG

04-22-2009, 05:26 AM

Sandy, great piece, nice color palette.
Mary, the lighthouse looks good.

Lighthouses, Poo Bear, Orchids and a Dock!
Is this variety or what?
What is even better is the quality of art that is posted here. Bravo everyone!

I have begun to paint the Lilies from my Manitoba flower garden. Some of them were just amazing, and while I know that I am not able to garden like I used to, I still miss playing in the mud.
I have the first layers on this one now....
"Pink Kissed (the edges are very pink) Ruffled Maroon Oriental Lily"
16" X 20"
All critiques/comments very welcome, as flowers are totally new to me.

04-22-2009, 01:44 PM
Kathleen, that is looking pretty, I wouldn't mind it in my garden!

04-22-2009, 07:44 PM

This is a most inviting spot! I am ready for vacation. Where can I find this spot?

04-22-2009, 08:28 PM
I am at least 3 paintings behind! :D Oh well! Here is the Xpost WDE
Don't even get me started on the others!

My painting was from a photo my brother and SIL took while in Alaska last Fall. The place is Ketchican Village. I was thrilled to get the pictures from there. I painted the one that I thought was the best view. Would love to go there myself.

04-22-2009, 10:54 PM
A lot of great works this week. I am still working on the portraits from last week...very slowly. I have been MUCH to busy this week, I have GOT to get more brush-time in this week. You guys are such an inspiration for me to keep plugging on those days that it seems like I screw up more strokes than I get right.

Great work, everyone!

04-23-2009, 03:14 AM
Sorry I haven't had the time to post...been peeking in, but things are hectic again this week!

Fascinating as usual, Howard!!

Mary, I like the tree and the lighthouse...I have seen the finishes...wonderful!!

Beautiful Kathleen!!

UHN...the swans are looking good!!

Kathie, it is coming along! I am beginning to think that if I ever get done with my kids, I am not doing a portrait again for a LONG time....especially more than one person!

J.Lee, this is adorable!!

Andy, this is really marvelous!! So much detail!!

Kathy...this is beautiful!!

Sandy, I really like this! Wonderful reflections!

Kathleen...that is gonna be gorgeous!! One beautiful lily!

Barbara...nice!! I wish I could paint loosely!!

Dan, I totally understand what you mean!

I am still stuck on this portrait of my daughter's family...I get one, and the other one leaves...and so on? I am trying to get the bone structure and the likenesses, and then worry about the colors...not sure that is working.

I will actually take a deep breath and show you the steps to where I am now.
You can not be any more critical than I am...:)
We of course have the ref photo...culled from some really iffy photos she sent me, and that I had from over the years...
and the extra faces I used to try and get extra input...
then the sketch
step 1-3

And finally where I am now. Just as I figured out what was wrong with the mouth/smile, Bob said it looked 'fake'...so I attempted to change it...to a less stressed one...

04-23-2009, 07:14 AM
Wow Susan,, it is really coming along,,
if I may say, where her neck and chin come together is bothering me, looks like she has her face jammed back into her neck. I do that all the time when I am getting pics taken and it looks awful on me, LOL,, maybe if you can somehow shade under her chin more, to make it appear to not do that?
heck, who am I to say that? take it or leave it..up to you LOL

And thank you.

Use Her Name
04-23-2009, 11:27 AM
this is the most recent swan update. I added some more fish in the lower right corner.

04-23-2009, 01:29 PM
Mary, I see what you mean...been trying to figure out what was wrong there...for one I think I had her neck too wide and short at first, and now, way too narrow. I think I am trying to turn the face straight on, and it is not. Thanks for looking.

04-23-2009, 10:08 PM
Still not there, but maybe a small step closer?

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/23-Apr-2009/51170-mandifam6x.jpg Not the greatest pic...got tired of playing with the colors. Funny...sometimes I scan, and things are A-ok...othertimes there is just no way to get it right...sigh!

Let me know if I am any closer? As always...C&C is welcome!!

Hey Dan congrats!!!

04-23-2009, 11:13 PM
Susan, I think she needs more highlights on the eyelids, upper, lower as well as cheekbones and chin. I like her lips with a little gum showing and highlights on the center of the lips showing contour. with darker toward the corners. I'd lighten the inner corners dark lines round the white, and the eye brows. her eye brows come too far down toward the inside corners of her eyes. Hope this helps. I'm still learning by studying the photos.
I give you alot of credit for doing 3 portraits together!
User.. the swans water and fishies look great!!
Barbara nice start on this horse!

04-24-2009, 12:49 AM
Kathy, I agree totally...still trying to get the bone structure right...tho' periodically I do the eyes, but so far have redone them about 5 times...

Believe me, I am still learning, and still learning...sigh!! Each time I scan them, I see more and more to do, or fix... But I actually feel like it is starting to look a bit like them. Once I get totally there, it will be time for the highlights and such. I liked the original mouth, but Bob thought it looked fake...so I have tried to relax it a bit.

I will get there....just hope it doesn't take as along as my son's

Susan this is coming along nicely! Looks like you got the hardest part done. Now its down to rendering. Its looking good:thumbsup:

04-24-2009, 01:45 PM
Wow haven't been here in awhile, tremendous works from everyone!

Kathy, said so before but your orchids are fantastic, that was a fun challenge
the pouring intriques me but I'll leave it to you cause my experiments always go bad...lol

Sue this is really coming along very well. Boy can I see you in her! Keep at it you always finish grand.

Oh my gosh where do I start.. Andy that's really something, you have that touch, looking good.

J.Lee...love Tigger..but they are all so well done!

Mary we all know the finale of the lighthouse turned out fantastically, great going!

Sandybells, welcome to the forum and this is stunning, colors, depth, all of it
well done.

Use her name...lovely swans and the water is fabulous!

Kathleen haven't seen the first you posted, looks to coming along quite well indeed!

Howard can never say enough about your work, the more I see it the more I appreciate each piece.

Kathie this is looking quite fine!

Well I have a tree, and an orchid and an apple which I really like but can't post it here cause it's a cp from their challenge. And tree and orchid are done so they're not really on my easel..lol Am going to start something I've been wanting to play with so will be back when I get some paint on the surface..always exciting to see what you all are doing, so taking some energy and going for now..happy painting everyone.

Susan, This is realy looking great. few suggestions, mostly highlights and lighter areas of his beard and mustache to show his chin too and lighten up the dark lines under the eyes. I sent you an PM. Hope it helps.

Don't have much time to comment at the moment leaving in a few minutes to my niece's birthday party. But I have to say great work to everyone! I just wanted to drop in quick and post the finished product. Hopefully she will like it!

04-25-2009, 01:39 PM
I limited my pallette and painted the sunset and Busy the cat from the WDE. Acrylics on 7x10" watercolour paper (previously folded hence the vertical wrinkle).

Hi Susan - maybe her neck could be a wee bit narrower? Her cheeks, too, on our left .... or maybe if you tone it in a wee bit of shadow it could "turn the form" and then not look so wide?

04-25-2009, 02:41 PM
And this was for the plant parade project in the florals forum. Acrylic on 7x10" watercolour paper.

04-25-2009, 04:15 PM
Think this one may be done. Have to study it for a bit to be sure.

04-25-2009, 09:46 PM
