View Full Version : A.J. in the blue shirt

Just thought I'd share my latest piece. It's still a WIP, but I should finish in the next day or so.

This is my son and it's the first portrait I've done of him. It's always harder to draw your own child.

It's Prismacolors, 5" by 7" on Stonehenge. Pretty small for a portrait, but it's actually one of a series of him in this same shirt and lighting.

I'll post another shot when I'm finished.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to finish it tonight.

Hilo, he has the best lips. They are so full. He gets them from his daddy. A.J. truly has lips made for pouting. It's a good thing he doesn't do it much because he just looks so cute when he does. One of these days, I'm going to draw the pic that's my tinyhead. The full pic is just adorable.

Heather, thanks. I like the way the eyes are coming along. I was going for a very wet look to them. They are super reflective in the ref pics that I took, so I am really trying to convey that.

Thanks Gemma. I just wish I could make him as cute as he really is. His eyes are prettier, his skin is creamier, and his cheeks are rounder. Of course, I'm biased, aren't I? :D

This is such a cute picture!!! I wish my girls were little again sometimes!!! They get nasty when they get older!!!

I drove right thru Kansas on Friday and managed to miss 435 South and ended up downtown of course at peak hour!!! So I chickened out and came home via Wichita - Salina - Concordia!! I actually like the west road (I-35) better -- the farms and fields of sunflowers are so pretty this time of year!!!

Thanks Colleen.

Hehe. I hate to tell you that 435 is pretty easy to get to even if you overshoot and end up downtown. It's just a big circle that's bisected by I-70 (which cuts through downtown). I like I-35 too. I used to live in apartments just off of I-35 and now, my house is just a couple of miles from it.

Well that's where I ended up on I-70 - I figured that as long as it was saying south I should just keep on it until I hit Oklahoma!!

Reading through the responses I gathered that your name is LeAnne. Hi, I'm Wes. :-)

The reflective surface of the eyes is incredible. I kept looking to see if I could see the artist with sketch pad working in them.

You have a beautiful son,

Thanks Nina! :)

Hi Wes. Welcome to Wetcanvas and thanks for the compliment. :) I think he's beautiful too. :D If anyone is curious, the reflective surface was done by leaving areas light and then going back in with an electric eraser and an erasing shield to give it more emphasis.

Thanks for providing the information on how you achieved the reflective surface.

Thank you so much Arlene, Gemma, Colleen and TeAnne. :D

Hehe. Yep, Te. I have this huge plug in Koh-I-Noor electric eraser that is FABULOUS. It's left over from the days when my husband did contract drafting work in telecommunications. He doesn't do that anymore, so I got a great new toy. :D

This is marvellous!
Like Wes, I was thinking for a bit we'd be able to see Mommy reflected in those beautiful bright eyes.

Have a great day! :)
