MY COMMENTS:
This is a work in progress that needs some fine tuning. I took this picture from the back of our boat. The shrimp boats were going out for the day but I enjoy painting sunsets more and used a shot from that evening of the sky.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
This is a pastel painted on Colorfix (dk purple) paper utilizing Rembrandt, Sennelier, and Conte pencils for detail. I am happy with the sky but would like feedback on my color and movement. I think it needs lites in the landscape. You help is appreciated.

Greetings:

This painting shows a great deal of promise. The sky is gorgeous, and the boat is well-drawn, but pay attention to where the highlights would be.

You actually have the darker side of the boat towards the sun, and each one of those lines, cables, and struts would be edged in light.

You also have highlights on the water at the prow of the boat, again opposite the sun.

I think with more attention to the lighting, this good piece could be a really good piece.

Keith.

Keith, thanks so much for your constructive critique. I'll fix those highlights and glints on the water right away. I'm in my "step away and see what needs fixing mode" and this forum is great for helping these tired eyes. :) Carmen

Keith, I hope that as you zoom in you can see the added highlights on the lines, masts, antennae, etc. I also deleted the highlights on the starboard side/darkened the boat and lightened the port side. Thanks so much for your help. Carmen
