Last year when this thread was begun, I could not honestly post anything. Having only been painting seriously for the 2007 period, I thought (and still agree) that I was not able to post anything that I could take great pride in.
This year, with the help of so very many people here I think I am much better.
My favorite and best from 2008.

Toss up between a couple pieces but i remember how intricate this one was and how it came to life after each session of painting. This one was a tough one to complete.

I think this was my favorite from 2008.
(I never have taken a good photo of this. The yellows look somewhat lifeless, but they are far more intense on the painting.)

My favorite from last year is a still life I did. It was one of the first still lifes I did from my own setup, and gave me confidence to try it more often. I am doing so many still lifes now to my own surprise!

Apart from the Different Strokes projects last year, I didn't post much in this forum - definitely slacking!!
This was a Spanish Farmhouse Window from the March D/S thread, chosen because I've always loved painting windows and doors - strange!
It's 8x8" square, canvas, heavy-body paint.
Original D/S thread, post #82 (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=481368&page=3).

Some great paintings so far that have raised the bar pretty high.
Perhaps Sunflowers will come close to the bar?

I think I'll post my 40 Bridges Collection. Afterall it was my biggest undertaking, taking me much of the summer to complete. All 4x5 inch canvas panels. Most refs from our RIL.

I'd have to say that this is my favorite acrylic piece from 2008.
It's 24X24" acrylic on board.

I could not decide...so I let my son pick, :) so here is the final copy of my father's parents (never actually posted), since my mom's parents were technically touched up/finished up, a few days after New Years, and this one the day before.
"Samuel Earl and Bernice Waller Ackley" ( My big brother is a geneology nut, and would probably hurt me if I did not use the correct names... yep...I am still afraid of him) 11x14 wrapped canvas

I picked the portrait of my dog Kira.
10x8" on hard board

I was thinking on this, and it actually was tough because, despite how special and pleased I was with this painting, I like quite a few of the ones I've done last year.

Hi Everyone! Oh this was hard to pick! I have some I think I did okay technically, then of course those that I like because of an emotional attachment, a couple I like cuz I was thrilled to have a some commissions. So, with my families help we decided on this one as it is different, a bit unique, and because it was my first and only real sale at a real art show by an unknown person.
Originally titled Wish This Was in my Backyard,
Sunset Oil Rig.

Sunny day at St Monans II
This is my second attempt at acrylics - I usually paint in WC but felt I should branch out. The painting is from my reference photo taken in the lovely Scottish village of St Monans in Fife.

I think this is probably my favourite from last year. My first portrait in Acrylics, and my daughter. :) I was so happy with how it turned out, and it really showed me how much I have grown as an artist. I have probably done better ones, technically, and compositionally, but this one is my favourite
Rachel, 11x14 canvas

This is my favorite of the year. Don't know why.............:)

This is one of two studies I did while experimenting with Golden Open paints. I am posting this one because it looks best on the web. It was done with all Golden Open paint on canvas.
However, almost everyone who has seen these two paintings in person prefers the one below (scroll down to the finished one). The skin tone turned out to be very translucent and you can't see that on the internet. The one linked here was done on masonite with regular acrylic paint and the Golden Open gloss medium. http://http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7078220&postcount=206
This one.... I think...
It posed several challenges for me and I enjoyed the process of trying to solve them. It also confirmed for me that I prefer painting indoor scenes as opposed to outdoors.
03-11-2009, 06:42 AM
I chose "Grannies" just because it was one of my favorite little pieces of last year - even though I typically paint odd numbers of elements, I just liked the colors and glazes in this one. 11 x 14" on canvas. http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=503440&highlight=grannies
03-11-2009, 02:14 PM
Of all the paintings I have submitted during 2008 I like this best of all. Partly because it is from an old family home so there is some sentimental attachment and partly because I think it is the most expressive painting completed during the year.
03-15-2009, 09:43 AM
I feel this is the best work I produced all last year, hope it fits in with all the other amazing pieces here. Great job to everyone.
03-19-2009, 01:26 AM
Well my reasons for choosing to submit are two-fold. It was one of the last pieces that I submitted to this forum, but it was also a turning point for me. This was the point at which I finally threw off the remaining shackles of my conditioned realism, found that I loved the new freedom, and since which I have journeyed further and further into abstraction as my main means of expression.

Since I'm fairly new to acrylics and this forum I only did a few for last year's challenges. This one is from the November challenge, fruit arrangement. Lil

Would have to say this one was and is a favorite, was completely immersed in painting it and think it turned out well. Thread link http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=526204&highlight=coming+peace

The Lonely Runaway was my favorite.
04-22-2009, 06:55 PM
I debated...and...debated about what to post here. My connection with Wet Canvas in 2008 helped me to produce more art than I did in the entire 31 years since graduating from Art School (yes I sold out to 9-5 jobs to make a living!!).
This is Boothbay Harbor Nocturne, 10" x 24" Wrapped Canvas
