Last year when this thread was begun, I could not honestly post anything. Having only been painting seriously for the 2007 period, I thought (and still agree) that I was not able to post anything that I could take great pride in.
This year, with the help of so very many people here I think I am much better.
My favorite and best from 2008.

Toss up between a couple pieces but i remember how intricate this one was and how it came to life after each session of painting. This one was a tough one to complete.

I think this was my favorite from 2008.

(I never have taken a good photo of this. The yellows look somewhat lifeless, but they are far more intense on the painting.)

My favorite from last year is a still life I did. It was one of the first still lifes I did from my own setup, and gave me confidence to try it more often. I am doing so many still lifes now to my own surprise!

Apart from the Different Strokes projects last year, I didn't post much in this forum - definitely slacking!!
This was a Spanish Farmhouse Window from the March D/S thread, chosen because I've always loved painting windows and doors - strange!
It's 8x8" square, canvas, heavy-body paint.

Hi Everyone! Oh this was hard to pick! I have some I think I did okay technically, then of course those that I like because of an emotional attachment, a couple I like cuz I was thrilled to have a some commissions. So, with my families help we decided on this one as it is different, a bit unique, and because it was my first and only real sale at a real art show by an unknown person.

I think this is probably my favourite from last year. I have probably done better ones, technically, and compositionally, but this one is my favourite

This is one of two studies I did while experimenting with Golden Open paints. I am posting this one because it looks best on the web. It was done with all Golden Open paint on canvas.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/10-Mar-2009/91784-P1010768-fpr-2008-Exhibitio.jpg

However, almost everyone who has seen these two paintings in person prefers the one below (scroll down to the finished one). The skin tone turned out to be very translucent and you can't see that on the internet. The one linked here was done on masonite with regular acrylic paint and the Golden Open gloss medium. http://http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7078220&postcount=206

This one.... I think...

It posed several challenges for me and I enjoyed the process of trying to solve them. It also confirmed for me that I prefer painting indoor scenes as opposed to outdoors.

Of all the paintings I have submitted during 2008 I like this best of all. Partly because it is from an old family home so there is some sentimental attachment and partly because I think it is the most expressive painting completed during the year.

Well my reasons for choosing to submit are two-fold. It was one of the last pieces that I submitted to this forum, but it was also a turning point for me. This was the point at which I finally threw off the remaining shackles of my conditioned realism, found that I loved the new freedom, and since which I have journeyed further and further into abstraction as my main means of expression.
