I finally was able to finish a painting I started months ago. So much is going on. I have not posted for a long time. There are so many wonderful works here. So many avenues to explore. Dial-up is very painful! This is a pastel on Suede mat-board. 16 X 20. It is done from a photo by Jack Nevitt.

That's just beautiful! The doe looks rather thin, but I am used to seeing fat, muscled out deer out west! Your detail is just awesome, great work.

Thanks, doe is thin, here is a link to the permission granted to me photo. I love the West. Wish I was there.

Love it! I think the light on the doe is wonderful. Love your grass in particular ;) Might be the answer to a problem I'm having with a grassy foreground...

Thanks Mariska,
I liked your website. Good information. Beaytiful work!I too am addicted to detail, but I can't stop! I struggle with any kind of Background. The grass was no exception. I must have used a dozen colors and layers and still did not like it.

www.theartofme.net (http://www.theartofme.net) Thank you for your nice words Gloria, and for taking the time to visit my website :) You got some pretty amazing stuff on your website too
Every time I start off a new painting I say to myself "try to use more loose strokes!", but I always end up getting lost in detail way too soon:D

Beautiful painting, you have done the ref justice!!!

I would suggest using a quiet blue in the tail, if you look at the ref the tail hairs are predominately shadowed, and there are yellow as well, this would pop the highlights in that area of the mama.
What soulful eyes you have. Great job!

Thank you all.

I thought about the blue in the tail, and in my other work where white is. I have sheepishly tried it, but not being educated in art in any way, I have a fear of it. I am going to go back and add some, and also try adding the yellow. I struggle with blending colors to get what I want. They never seem to make the colours that I need for a perfect match!! LOL!

This is a lovely painting. I sure understand your reluctance but do try having fun with it and not worrying about the outcome. I'm discovering how much fun it can be to try new and different things. I'm sure you will too.
