View Full Version : Pears No. 3 - Finished ??
02-05-2009, 05:33 PM
Here's the next in the pear series - stopped because I'm losing the natural light I like to paint by.
02-05-2009, 07:37 PM
I'm really liking this series. I hope that you'll continue and post more.

Kathryn love this i am just wondering if the ewe is tipping forwards abit? Looks sooo cool though!
02-05-2009, 08:05 PM
Thanks Karen and Betsy - yes, now that I see it here it does look like it's tipping forward - just like my wonky bowl, but this one I will fix.

I really like what you're doing with these pears, Kat! That lost and found outline thing just fascinates me. I would watch the far-left pear. Its top is kind of blending with the line of the pitcher. Maybe make the top of the pear a little fatter or rounder to differentiate them?
02-05-2009, 08:14 PM
Yup, you're right Donna - that's why I posted - 3 paintings in two days, I'm now getting a little wonky myself!
02-05-2009, 09:35 PM
The sense of light is wonderful.
02-05-2009, 10:37 PM
Oh my very nice! I hope i can get this good; really nice!!:)
02-05-2009, 10:40 PM
...aw, and I expected pears on a roll! :p
I like it!
02-05-2009, 11:01 PM
Well, we can get funky too!
02-05-2009, 11:02 PM
Binkie - glad you got the light - I like that too.
Tammy - just keep working, it will come
02-05-2009, 11:23 PM
Wow! I really like this one! Very dramatic light!
02-05-2009, 11:29 PM
Kathryn, you are on fire, girlfriend!!
I so love the sketching lines that are there when you are done and your colours, WOW!
02-05-2009, 11:52 PM
Very, very cool! i really like this series.
02-06-2009, 07:36 AM
I love this!! Really fresh and original! I love the moody colours too.
02-06-2009, 08:48 AM
I really like those cold cold shadows.......these are such fun light-hearted paintings. Donna R.
02-06-2009, 08:58 AM
Don, Judy, Sara, Pippa and Donna R - thanks you all for the kind comments.
I will be showing this and the other two pear paintings at our First Friday Art Walk tonight and get back to you with any comments that are made.
Of course, this one is not completed, but people seem to like viewing a work in progress.
02-06-2009, 10:43 AM
Very nice, Kat! The looseness is very expressive and bold.
02-06-2009, 08:53 PM
Love the style here. This really stands out.
02-06-2009, 11:35 PM

02-07-2009, 09:46 AM
Thanks Tres - and good to see you here in the Pastel Forum.
02-07-2009, 12:44 PM
Kat you may feel wonky but your work isn't! I love the freshness of this and the rest of the series. Hurrah for you!
Oh and I think it's kind of mean that you rub in the fact that you get to work with natural light when some of us live in the land of gray skies, rain, and interior studio space without windows..... LOL Jealous!!!
Barb (now to go see how last night went... are you on talk?)
02-07-2009, 04:55 PM
I took all 3 pear paintings to Open Studio and got feedback - ha, it's like asking a 100 people for their opinions - I got 100 different opinions - :) But it was fun and it was good food for thought.
Judy Webber has been kind enough to share a few more pear photos - and she's teaching me how to set things up for good lighting too! huzzah!!!

Just about ready to pop this into a frame, but thought I'd have your very astute looks before I do. Getting ready for my second solo show and it's getting a bit harried around here.
hmmmm .... seeing a few little yellow specks here and there ... good thing I did this as I can't see them with the naked eye.
02-19-2009, 04:45 PM
oh wow Kathryn.... this is stunning. I love all the subdued colors. Many times we get so excited about all the pretty colors we forget to use such a simple and harmonic color palette such as this!
Those purples in that vase are amazing!
I am wondering if the elipse at the bottom of the vase.. (not the one that touches the table... but the one just above) is curved correctly. It may be but my monitor shows it a little dark. But this is just a very small thing.... I love this painting!!!
02-19-2009, 07:11 PM
Kathryn i really like it. the vase is glowing i like seeing your outlines in places.
02-19-2009, 07:43 PM
Kathryn, this is great. I love the outlining touches. Different.
02-19-2009, 08:36 PM
Hi Susan - I will check that elipse again!
Betsy and Jo - thanks for stopping by to comment :)
02-19-2009, 11:05 PM
Wow...what a great piece!!!
I know exactly what you mean about things popping out once you've posted them online :)
One very small thing I see is our left very bottom side of table/cloth does not hang exactly straight...could be the pic or your intention :)
Good luck with your show...this is a stunner!!!
02-20-2009, 08:52 AM
Seeeee ... that's why I wanted you guys to take another look - I overlooked that, but it needs to be fixed.
02-20-2009, 05:09 PM
Boy this turned out stunning!!! Love it!!
