Hi everyone  I had this in the what's on yer easel thread earlier this month - here she is finished up. My little toy fox terrier.
I've been painting with oils for 3 years and mostly focused on alla prima plein airs for most of that time. Just starting to get comfortable enough to do portraits...any c&c's or advice very welcome!
Take care,
Becky
Ps. there's a wip thread for this in the wip forum

Great rendering of your doggy. I see that you grounded him! Amazing how much a tiny bit of shadow makes a difference. As far as crit is concerned the only thing that seems a bit off is the hind left leg (his, our viewing right). A bit thick and the shadows of the tendons & bone seem to be in an odd place. Did you work from a photo or did you train your dog to stand still?

Thanks for the crit Novenus - I see what you're saying and I'll try and fix it (paint's still wet!). I used a photo reference and the real dog...

Nah, she's a leggy dog, I think the photo's distorted. Thanks very much though.
Thanks Janetuesday!
Here's a couple little updates and the values are truer in this pic. Might work on her some more tomorrow - I'm up for more suggestions!
Thanks again,
Becky

Very good work: the ample range of values and the use of blue into the shadows gives this canine portrait a special feeling of vitality and force.
The drawing also is vey good, presenting a spontaneous, vivacious expression in her "face".

Becky, I think your latest is spot with just enough color to compliment the white fur. I would'nt change a thing on it. Well Done!

Thanks Monte! I have to admit I couldn't leave well enough alone and blended the white on her top lip (where she's "smiling") in a little. NOW she's done ;)
Take care,
Becky
