I was asked by a friend to paint her mom and brother's puppy Teddy. This is my first attempt at a puppy. Have only done a couple of my cats. I usually do flowers. :) C&C's welcome.

Yes love those eyes Dorice, very nicely painted.
Best from mike.
Hi Dorice, Stunning eyes and lighting, Bravo. Maybe a little of your deeper lavender shadow color cast on the neck below the right cheek. Might show the turn in the neck a little more. Just a thought. Beautiful color throughout. Pat

Great work, I have a little dog that is the spitten image of this one, her name is Little Orphan Annie. She,s delightful, just like this little one seems to be. you did a wonderful job of capturing this little one. My vet call those ears, airplane ears. It only makes them cuter.

Wow! Thank you, everyone. It was kind of a daring move for me to post in this forum of experienced animal painters. I feel affirmed that the requester will indeed be happy with the painting! :)
But I am going to miss the little guy who came to life for me as the painting (especially the eyes) developed! :)

Nice! I like the colors of the dog and the handling of the background - good harmony in this one.
Take care,

I hadn't the time this week to properly respond so I did a quickie to acknowledge.
Ted, thanks for the comment on the background. It was kind of iffy! Hard to decide ...
Susan, thanks!
Becky T - thanks. I like the complementary colours too. I see your icon is May Flowers! They're my most absolute favourite tiny blooms. I've done two paintings of mayflowers (posted at WetCanvas somewhere!) in their honour, and they're also on my blogspot. (If you're interested: http://doricewatercolours.blogspot.com)
Kathie, thanks! Gee ... wish I were where you live right now. LOL
MrsG SoCal, thanks so much!
Gary, glad to make someone smile! :)
Brandynne, thank you!
Loxley, I can just imagine the little airplane ears on Little Orphan Annie! :cat:
Lola, thank you!
Pat, thanks. I agree with your suggestions. I also though a bit of shading on the very left part of Teddy's little back to show the direction of the light better.
Mike, thanks! My best to you ... love your works.
Debbie, thank you! Now you have me curious. What is a gourd burner? Is that an image on your icon? ... burning gourds into designs?
Jody, thanks! I see you're quite experienced at puppies! ... wow
Ian, thank you. Indeed NB is gorgeous. Where have you been here? I live sort of west of Shediac on the coast. But I love our vast and wild forests, the wild and untouched coastlines.
This is my first posting in this forum. I might have to come back with more!
Thank you everyone, for the stamp of approval for this painting which I will deliver this week. Gee ... I hope I didn't miss anyone!
Cheers!

I checked out your blog - great stuff! Beautiful paintings of Trailing Arbutus - they're my favorite flowers too. I especially like that they're some of the first flowers of the spring around here, and they smell divine. I love how shy and secretive they are too :) We always called them "May flowers" when I was growing up, too. We used to call Bluets May flowers too...I guess it's a catch-all name. I took a bunch of reference photos of Trailing Arbutus last year but have yet to paint them (I did do a drawing of them for a journal cover once...) - let me know if you want some images!
I'm so impressed you recognized them in my tiny avatar,
Becky

Becky, I was trained at a very young age - as you can read at my blog - to identify the leaves and the expected environment in the forest. I know trailing arbutus! :) So glad to "meet" someone of the same mind.
I'd love to see your images!

Good job! The important detailing in the eyes and nose works very well. Nice color choices also.

Thanks, Ian ... and I'm glad you love New Brunswick. We do have a wonderful wonderland, don't we?
Do you visit often?
Beautiful work! The background and eyes are fabulous!
