Hi gang,

It's been some time since I've been here. Like more than a year or so! My life has turned upside down in that time (lost my jobs in mortgage banking and no I wasn't one of the "bad guys"... I left BECAUSE of the bad guys. :) ) And have spent the last year learning what is REALLY important in life when the money is not flowing....

And after moving through the anger, shock and frustration of living a new life outside the workforce, I have found a new inner drive to devote myself 100% to my artwork again. I built my own website (the other was done by a friend who really didn't put much into it), got brochures, cards, made contacts with stores and shops etc. etc.

And as a debut to my new "coming out" I completed a drawing that I have wanted to do for 3 years. It's just a head/shoulder portrait of a pug. But it has much significance to me. I had a friend who loved pugs and I so wanted to gift him with a drawing of one.. but life happens and I didn't get around to it and then he died. :(

So Nov. was the 3 year anniversary of his death and as a memorial to him, I finally completed his drawing. Here are some progress shots and the finished product.

Oh and the good news is, I got my first commission order in over 2 years yesterday! This guy wants a portrait of his wife... AND THEIR TWO PUGS! HAHAHA! So good thing I just got good practice at drawing them! I'm so happy to be "back at it" again.

What an adorable little pug...I keep expecting to see that tongue pop out of it's mouth. Congrats on your commission.

what a gorgeous piece of art  I love it
life has the habit of turning you upside down, but it looks like you got out on a brighter side, so well done to you. And well done on the commission

edited to add, I just had a look trough your previous posts on WC and I had to pick up my jaw from the floor. This is realism in its finest    love the one of the Hand holding the rocks. Just fantastic.

I'm sorry to hear about you struggles. Art has a way of soothing and comforting one in times of hardship, doesn't it? I've found drawing essential to keep from going crazy sometimes.

Your pug is amazing!! I always wanted a Pug...maybe someday...
I love the touch of gray in BG. It's just the right amount of dark to compliment the subject. Beautiful, beautiful work!!

Thank you everyone! You know, I really don't feel "bad" now for the job loss. I couldn't say that even 3 months ago but it's amazing how life has the ability to transform your perspective sometimes. Usually through "trial by fire" but whatever works, ya know?

I am so much more peaceful now, being out of that chaotic environment. And God bless that my husband has enough income to keep us going (albeit with a LOT of financial rearranging, letting go of things we "thought" we needed etc to reduce the monthly budget). Life has become much simpler now and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

So now it's about my NEW job...getting up every day and knowing I can draw to my hearts content while my kids are at school, (I have 3 more drawings started besides the commission I will be doing!), listen to my favorite tunes, stop to scritch scratch my yorkies every once in a while... yea. Isn't that the kind of time we all DREAM about having?

Careful what you ask for, ya just might get it.
