THe idea of fat over lean makes a lot of sense to me in oil painting and i try to adhere to it in my work.
Now we see alkyd varnish as well as alkyd ground to replace acrylic gesso. Both seem like reasonable products until we think about fat over lean. Is alkyd not leaner that traditional oil paint even before the addition of oily medium? That would mean that the alkyd ground would still be a good idea and the varnish probably not, especially if you end up with a fairly fat final layer.

Is this a problem for anyone else?

I also wonder about the ability to remove the alkyd varnish later if necessary.
