“Stheno and Euryale”
2.75"x 4.5"
scrimshaw on Imitation ivory
Tooled brass frame (not sure what to call it exactly!)
This was the second scrim piece i did this year (impromptu), got away from the more tradional look associated with the artform and let me come through a little:)
anyway thought i'd share and see what you all thought, really like doing them, i'm wrapping up a traditionally rendered buffalo for a gift, and ive got another in mind already
cheers

Ivan, I think that using your own style to decorate such a traditional material is bold, brave, and very very intriguing! Welcome to the MM forum of WetCanvas, by the way :)

The buffalo i'm working on is a challenge, its got some issues (i'm not a wild life artist) This is the first bit of wildlife art ive worked on in 20 years so its definitely not perfect, but i love the folksy appeal of the medium. And i think my friend will really like it. Thanks for the warm welcome

cheers

yep the countertop material, and its a couple bucks for a sample square direct from dupont:thumbsup: i do plan on eventually using a more natural material, bone or horn but this way i'm not wasting expensive material if i really foul it up. Its only my fourth piece so i got a ways to go!
So what did ya think of the piece? not bad considering the severe lack of wildlife rendering talent:)
cheers

I think it's wonderful! Let's have no more talk of "lack of talent", young man!
:D
