A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: November Pastel Puzzle #2
Project Leader: christyart
Relative Difficulty: Easy
Type Restrictions: Painting
Medium: Pastels
Subject: Not Applicable
Days open for signups: 7
Maximum participants allowed: 16

Description:

A reference has been divided into 16 individual pieces.

Sixteen participants will each receive one piece of the puzzle to paint in pastel. Please keep your painting small, no more than 6" x 6", and only paint what you see.

Sign up to participate and I will PM a puzzle piece to you, along with a number. When all pieces have been finished and submitted to the project system as a finished piece, along with the number of the piece, the pieces will be put back together to see the final painting, along with the reference.

This project begins November 10, 2008 and ends December 7, 2008. You have the first week of November to decide if you want to participate.

If there aren't 16 participants, those who do participate may request a second piece of the puzzle to paint. This is a fun project.

Looking forward to your participation!!

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/index.php?cmd=view_details&proj_id=1214)

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

Okay everyone. Here's the second puzzle project for those who missed out on the first one!! This one has room for 16 participants instead of 12. I see there are already two signed up! I'll be PM'ing your puzzle pieces to you shortly! Thanks for playing!

Christine

Make that four sign ups already!!

I'm not going to try this till I'm done with the first one. I'm way behind. Watch me try to talk myself out of it. I bet it'll be a good picture too.

Guess I need to get cracking on my first one so I can get in while this is open!

This is pp2-6. It was fun b/c I have no idea what it is. Sometimes it looks like the petals of a flower, sometimes textiles, often a smiling, mutant dolphin!

I did it on a small piece of taupe La Carte.

I am having trouble getting it under 200 for submitting in the project section. Changing dpi, I can only get it down to about 250. I'm using Ifanview. If anyone has a suggestion, please PM me or post here.

Thanks.

CM Neidhofer
11-17-2008, 10:01 AM
Try putting it back in irfanview and just scaling it down. Don't resize it, scale it. That's how I did all the pieces in the first place. Except I used Gimp. Anyway, see if that works.

Christine

Potoma
11-17-2008, 10:21 AM
If by saying scaling, you mean adjust dpi, I did that, but I do not trust Ifanview's dpi changes, either, b/c nothing seems to happen. Maybe I'll download Gimp, too, and work with it more.

Thanks for replying.

Beautiful, Bonnie. (I'd've loved that one.) It could be part of an opened fruit, like a pumpkin? Or a mushroom, broken open. Or a leaf. Or just about anything.

I'm still having trouble getting my piece under 200KB to upload it with the other puzzle pieces. I've used Picasa, Ifanview, and even downloaded GIMP. Even if I lower the dpi to 150 or below, it won't go less than about 250KB in size. It makes no sense.

Christine, if you could manipulate this for me, I'd appreciate it; get back with what worked, if you could. With the puzzle uploading restriction of 200KB, I can't get it into the right place on my own. Sorry.

Thanks.

Potomac, using Irfanwiew, use the resize/sample image function, set the resolution to 72 dpi, then resize the image to 800 x 800 pixels. This should result in a file size of something just less than 200 mb. I downloaded the image that you posted above and used it to reset the size (~186 mb). Could not get the resize function to work properly in my version of gimp.

Hope this helps some.

Hi everyone. In case you haven't read my messages in the other puzzle project, just a heads up to let you know I'm having internet connection problems. I've been able to barely pick up a wireless signal with my lap top, but it's verrrrry slow! Seems to be a little better this evening though, so I'm using this opportunity to send you a note. ISP says this should all be resolved by the end of this week. I'm very aggravated with my service at this time and they can't seem to decided whethere it's on their end or mine. "They're working on it." :p Anyway, I will be back as soon as possible to look at entries and start piecing this together. I apologize and please bear with me!!

Hi Christy...
I am sorry for the delay... I have been sick and had an exam to write on top of that. I am hoping that what I have done will be acceptable. I have looked at the other pieces and cannot figure how mine could possibly relate to them. Also, the only way I could work with it was to enlarge the image and it became horribly pixelated and blurry. Anyway... you will have it soon!

Hi all. Just a little reminder to those who haven't finished their pieces. Would like to wrap this up by the end of the year if possible. If you could add your pieces to the project by next Tuesday, I will have time to piece them into the final. If I don't have all the pieces by Tuesday, I will start filling in with pieces of the original. Not nearly as much fun though!!! I know it's a busy time of year, just sending out a reminder. Thanks!!

Hi all. There are still six of you out there who haven't submitted your puzzle pieces. Just a reminder that we would like to wrap this up so that other wonderful projects and classes can have their space here. I really don't want to add the original ref pieces to finish this. Everyone's work is so wonderful and I would hate to lessen the effect! If you're having problems, or time restraints, let me know here or in a PM and I'll try to hold it open as long as I can, but I'm hearing wrap this up by the first of the year. Thanks, everyone!!

I've taken the liberty of finishing this up with the original ref pieces. I haven't heard from anyone that still has an outstanding piece and we needed to wrap this up. So here's our pieced work with the original ref below that. Thanks to everyone for participating and again, just a wonderful job from everyone!!
