Yesterday I went back to a small shipyard here a few km.
away, they pull all kinds of boats on shore to repair
or for restoration, and that always gives nice spots!

It was very cold though, I had to run several time up and down
the yard to get warm again, but the weather was lovely grey
so I had the time to paint a little longer.

After that it was "Fun Time" that's what I call sketching with
matchstick an Sepia, .... :)

The stain on the last one is just a, ...... stain! :D

Impressive stuff. I love the sky and the boats in the painting. It really feels like a cold and overcast day. Very nice sketches, too.

The stain on the last one is just a, ...... stain!

It could be the moon also? :D

Good job, as always. Lovely boats. All that line drawing with the sharp edges on the decks looks really sweet.

Sketch3 is my favourite but they are all outstanding. The size of boats out of the water is always a surprise and you have conveyed that perfectly with solid drawing and perspective.

I really like your sketches, Rene, and the boats are wonderful in your oil painting. I feel their weight! I wonder if a shadow under the car wouldn't anchor it to the ground a little better though.

Lovin the oil painting of the boats; there are a couple watercolourist over in the wc forum who actually have quite a similar style and effect using watercolors. Sketches are great; love that happy accident (nothing like a well placed stain).

that'll teach you to set your coffee on your sketch!

The boats feel just massive to me. Your sketches are nice, I think this is a good way to work.. more relavant to painting than just pencil sketches.

René (am I the only one here who knows how to type an accent? :D), you really take on the difficult drawing subjects. Good work*. :thumbsup:

Wow, Rene, these are just stunning! The car in the first one is such an important element, and really sets the scale of the boats. I'd not have guessed how huge they are without that car in the painting.

Your sepia sketches are nothing short of inspiring! I think I'm going out with my walnut ink and sepia pens tomorrow. I've been meaning to fill up one of my water barrel brushes with some diluted sepia watercolor to act as a midtone when I go out sepia-sketching. Now you've got me going. Thanks! :clap:

Although I used a reddish orange undertone on my board, (to give me some warmth) it definitely was cold indeed.

I don't know what it is with boats, .. I just seem to like them a lot.
I guess it has something to do with water also, .. reflections are just nice things to paint.

I didn't saw it, ... as you can see the car was parked on a different spot,
and I had to paint it more or less form imagination.
