View Full Version : Overhead View of Flamingo - Xpost from WC forum
  This is done on Cotman 140# CP, 12 x 16. It is an overhead view of a flamingo in the water. I wanted to try something a little different and more creative. The water was accomplished by placing crumpled up wax paper on the wet paint and letting it dry. It was too dark, so my husband suggested spraying off some of the paint w/o rubbing it to maintain the texture.
C & C welcome. :) :)

Wow Joy you have created some really unique texture with your wax paper, and I love the contrasting colour combination. A really interesting piece.
very pretty. Is that line in the front its leg?

The textured blues really make this interesting visually and I like the way the forms flow around the bird, looks like it would be a good way to make ice too

Very nicely painted Joy.
Best from mike.
   Thank you all for the kind words - the general consensus is that it would work better w/o the leg, so I'll paint it out. I posted the ref photo; it goes to show you you shouldn't be a slave to the photo if something else would work better. That is why I changed the sand to water. :wink2: :wink2:

Joy I think you really did something great here!! Not only a beautiful bird, great creative technique on the background but a smart hubby to boot!!!!
BTW I knew what the leg was right off!!! Did you mask out the flamingo before you did the BG?
Susan
beautiful idea, painting and the above view.

I painted around the bird and painted out the leg yesterday. Also I used Saran wrap, not wax paper. That was my error.

This is very bright and unique--great method with creating the water. The dark spot with the line and dot in the lower right area almost looks like a little fish peeking up:) . I can see this on display at the zoo entrance or in a beautiful room with tropical colors.
