Local Architecture

Hi all.

In going through my archives I came across some shots of houses at a local beach. That got me thinking (yes, I know it's sometimes dangerous when I do that) that it might be fun to have a thread where you could post photos representative of the architecture in your area.

I'll start it off with 8 or 9 images. The first bunch is from a town called Seal Beach, just north of Huntington Beach.

These last two aren't from the beach; they're more inland, beside Lake Huntington in Huntington Beach. The building is actually the Breakfast at the Park Restaurant. But it's been run for decades by local resident Alice Gustafson, so I think of it as Alice's Restaurant.

What year are these houses, are some pre war?

Chris, I'm not sure of the ages of the houses. I'd imagine that they range from decades old to quite new. My guess is that few would be pre-war.

(The city of Huntington Beach will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2009.)

I quickly went through my photos that I took of our local architecture in downtown Pensacola. I found three to share. I know one is of a train but it was so cool I had to add it. Hope you enjoy.

Do you any history on the loco?

The brick building needs a bit of rotatiion - she is leaning to the left - unless the ground is unstable and cannot support it.

Thanks for adding to the thread, Libby. The locomotive is cool, as are the buildings. The church looks a bit like one in my area, I think - I'll have to dig up a photo of it to be sure.

Hi Cameraman,

Sorry, I don't have any history on the locomotive. I wish I did to share with you. As for the building, I think that is more me not paying attention. I was just snapping and didn't really set myself up to good. Thanks for pointing it out so I can watch out for it next time. :)

Yes, it's in Huntington Beach, on Warner Avenue east of Goldenwest (across from Ocean View High school, for those who know the area).
