I have an announcement on behalf of Pamela - who should be back to the forum in the next few days:
Pam's entry: Two Dears, won the 2008 Saskatchewan Big Game Painting Series Dr. David E. Stark Purchase Award. As the winner, she was received $1000.00.
WAY TO GO PAM!!!
What a win! Both for her use of a non-traditional media and for her subject matter (yes, the fawns are white-tail deer, but these awards usually go to the artists who enter oil or acrylic paintings of well-pointed bucks).

Thank-you Tania for all the accolades and kind words!! Much appreciated!!! I had so much fun at the Reflections show...it went so fast that its a blur... Tania must be tired as she was working like a fiend, she is one of those who gives everything of herself to make the show run smoothly, the organizers of Reflections of Nature Art Show Don't know how they got along before she became involved! I thank you as do many others!!!

Pamela, whoooo weeee! Well deserved recognition, your fawns are amazing. I'm sure they knock the judges socks off. Looks like you needed a wheelbarrow to take all those ribbons home. I guess from now on it's the Paminator. :D

was christina langman in this year
how did she do
Sorry to leave you hanging like that BP: Christina Langman took Best in Show (at the Open level - for y'all from outside western Canada, Open is the top level at Reflections) with her piece, "Snow Leopard Eye" in coloured pencil. Christina started her professional wildlife art career in Scratchboard with acrylics, but works almost exclusively now in coloured pencil. You can find her website (with some lovely earlier works in scratchboard) by googling "Big Cat Art".

Well, I think I've caught up on enough sleep to toot my own horn now...
I was at the SWAA Reflections in Nature 2008 too, and really enjoyed myself. In addition to entering as a participant, I was one of three judges for the Juniors (under 18) and Novice ("artists who are just at the beginning of their artistic endeavours"), and I organized the QuickDraw (participants are given 2.5 hours to complete a piece of art in any 2-dimensional medium).
I'm pretty pleased with my entries this year - nothing as exciting as Pamela's win mind, but I did win a few ribbons:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-Oct-2008/67405-Reflections08Wolf.jpg
Honourable Mention, Open Level, Mammal: Full Body Class. Shiver: Grey Wolf. Scratchboard and acrylic ink, size 20 x 16 in. Copyright Tania Nault, 2008.

Second in Division, Open Level, Monochromatic. Hanging On: Koala Bear. Scratchboard, 14 x 11 in. Copyright Tania Nault, 2008.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-Oct-2008/67405-Reflections08Polar.jpg
First in Division, Open Level, Monochromatic. Waiting for the Sea Ice: Polar Bear. Scratchboard, 24 x 18 in. Copyright Tania Nault, 2008.
I also was approached to do a scratchboard workshop sometime next year, so we'll see where that goes.
And that's it. But I think the best part of the whole show was going back to the hotel room Friday afternoon, running into Pamela in the hall, congratulating her on her win with "Two Dears" and watching her jump up and down squealing like a little girl  That made my weekend, truly.

She's got a blog, you could always post a comment on it and nag her to update her site ;)
Actually, I'll see her in a couple weekends, we're in another group show together with a local art club (Regina Federation of Artists) I'll tell her that her eager fans await.

Thanks, guys. I took advantage of a critique from one of the Open Judges on the last day of the show for my wolf - and now I want to redo it! I promise to take some decent pictures of it in the daylight and start a thread for him.

"Shiver" Tania's wolf, is one of those works of art that make you step back and well...Shiver! Its beautiful and almost lifesize, very Dramatic!! The picture of it really doesn't do it justice. You all know that pieces see live is so much better well.... the Polar bear is  OMG... I loved this piece on WC but in life its just amazing!! So much bigger than I imagined. And yes I knew the dimentions. Huge impact!!!
Great Job Tania!  And Congratulations on all those ribbons!!!
