I love profiles ... they're much easier to paint. :D Seriously, I really enjoy doing profiles. I tried some unusual lighting for this one.

Wow! Could you share your palette with us for that one? And about the lighting, it seems you used one source up behind him and another one, softer, more in front of him, but where exactly? It really shapes unusual shadows and lights on his face, and it's so nice!

Thanks, everyone.
The first thing I noticed after shooting it, was the shirt colour. It does have some warm red in it, but it doesn't show in the photo. Also, the image is a little less saturated.
The colours on my palette were Transparent oxide red, ult blue, cad red and yellow, and white. There may have been alizarin and yellow ochre there too, but I can't remember if I used them. :D

The bluish coloring of the shadows really works with the burnt orange hues elsewhere. Love the modeling of the face. Great job!

Great work!
Glorious. Love the light. the trouble I have with profiles is that you always see an ear...and they are complicated and no fun. :D Of course you did a brilliant job.

Wonderful profile!
Love the texture/light/ 3-D you've gotten in the hair, and the light used on the head. Very strong! Beautifully modelled.
I do have some problems with the strong chroma of the background red. It's so close in hue to the head, that I find it fights a bit. Perhaps it works better IRL?

Simple Profile may be a nice title but there is absolutely nothing simple about this painting. The color choices, the light sources and the profile itself are all superb. Congrats on a stunning work of art!

Thanks, Aires. Simple is usually best. I keep telling myself, keep it simple, stupid ... then we get into a fight. :D :D :D
