Title: What to Do
Year Created: 2002
Medium: Mixed-Media
Surface: Canvas
Dimension: 16
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

As you look upon those that you have to take care after a certain age. You expect them to do what they did all their lives. But once in while life throws a curve ball and you find yourself in the situation of taking care of those you love. What is the feeling that comes thru when you see the loss of an identity?

Do I capture this in this image?
I'm still working on it. so if you have any ideas where to go from here please let me know?

you ask for a simple answer
to a not simple question...

an answer which certainly depends
on the particular people
in the situation...

a situation which has varying responses
even in one particular relationship group
depending on the situation and feelings of that day

you could do lots of paintings on this subject...
just one couldn't cover the whole story
and best to paint from stories you know personally
of your family,
or another's family you know well...
family dynamics being what they are...very complicated.

this painting could be one...
like the painting on the wall above the older person...
(hopefully the older person in their youth)
nice touch for the story being told in the painting

the younger person looks a bit disgusted/ frustrated/
even angry/ and entirely resigned...
the older person looks upset/ sad and bewildered...even scared
to the losses of her youth and capacities...and what is to come.

the divide of the doorway
adds to the divide between these family members...

the dynamics to this family do not look that positive
in the face of what is to be done day to day.
Hopefully, you just got them at a bad moment
and they "deal" much better most of the time.

not done...which way to go?...entirely up to you
and what the story is you want to tell
you are very good at convey feelings
through your paintings.
hope I read them right this time...
