View Full Version : Cloud Play Diptych

:wave:I just finished my first diptych! This started as a single painting, a plein air cloud piece originally meant to be just a background for the trees in my backyard. After thinking about it for a week, I decided to leave it as a cloud paintings and do a companion piece. The one on the right is the original plein air; the one on the left is fabricated from my imagination using the first one as a guide. I'll try and get a picture in better light over the next few days. These are both 16" x 20" on wrapped canvas. Let me know what you think? C & Cs welcomed and appreciated as always.:D

They look great as they are, Elizabeth. Personally, I would like to see some more colours, maybe some touches of crimson towards the bottom half, a touch of purple here and there. I feel kind of monotonous now, but it is very nicely painted.:)

these are very beautiful indeed ... quite the dramatic sky !!! .... i do detect though that the left panel is predominantly cool in colour while the right panel is warm ... and a couple or three cloud issues strike me ... the top left cloud in the right panel *kisses* the edge ... perhaps it could be painted into the left panel a tad more ... the middle most cloud changes colour right where the panels are separated ... and the bottom most cloud seems to be of different colours from one panel to the next .... reddish on the left and bluish on the right (tho it could be a photo/computer depiction) .... all things considered, though ... the composition's a winner !! ... ...

 Thanks for the kind comments and feedback Colleen, Carol, Susan, Kathleen, Ruthie, Kathie, Susan, Mike, Robert, Nithya and Violet! :D

All good points, Violet! Only one, I believe is the fault of the light and angle of the photograph and that's the bottom most cloud. I will work on this some more and get a better photo over the next few days. Thanks for your keen eye!

 Nithya - I actually want to do another with some more colors in it, but will probably leave this as I saw the sky that day. Thank you for the idea! :)

I don't know how Carol feels about these, but I admire ANYONE that can do good clouds. These, however, are fantastic!

What a great diptych! I like how the two complement each other. Wonderous.

Wow Elizabeth! You certainly proved that the first was no fluke! What a gorgeous, soothing painting. I would never have thought that a painting of just clouds could be so interesting. If and when I ever need to paint clouds, this is the benchmark to which I will strive!
