What sort of protectant do I coat a finished acrylic painting with? Like a varnish? or what? brands? Reccomendations?

I use a mix of 1/4 grumbacher gloss medium and 3/4 liquitex matt varnish/medium.. Then not toooo much shine and wont reflect light and distract from the painting. Yes you should varnish to protect from the elements. you can go to golden, liqutex and other sites and read what they say on varnishes. if you are putting it behind glass with a matt to keep it off the glass its not necessary to varnish it... but will maintain the canvas/paper alot long if it is. Hope this helps.

Yup, I use Liquitex either Gloss or Satin finish depending on the sheen I want........

I usually use golden satin varnish with UV protectant. You should varnish because it also brings out the freshness of the colours to something closer to what the painting looked like when you were painting it as well as bringing back some transparency to your glaze layers.. Acrylics have a tendency to look a bit dull once dry and a coat of varnish fixes this.

IF I varnish (sometimes) I use Talens spray varnish matte

I use Liquitex Satin and/or matt varnish. I didn't use any isolation coat in the past but will start to do so in the future. It just makes sense to have an xtra coat between varnish and painting to keep the painting protected in case the varnish will be taken off for cleaning at some point :)
