The forum system now communicates with the chat system. If someone posts a new topic, you won't miss it if you are in chat. The system broadcasts a message letting you know the forum and the topic name... :-)

Cheers.

Digichat apparently uses a new "port hopping" scheme. From the docs:

"The DigiChat Server now listens to multiple ports and the client tries multiple ports when connecting. The ports are 8396, 58396, 8080, 110, 25, 119, and 443. It makes no difference to the client or server which port they connect on. Because a DigiChat 1.5 client (through the web-based applet or through the ChatMaster) will be attempting to connect to a DigiChat 2.0 server on a port that the server is not listening to, it will be told that a connection could not be established."

Hopefully this helps, Henrik. Don't worry, we'll get to the bottom of this yet. :-) I can get in just fine with IE 4.0 here.

Cheers.

Scott, thanks for the info. I have a suspicion that something else is wrong. it appears that the applet never starts; my question regarding port was just a hunch, and maybe the client now does things in another order; I don't get to see the applet window before it bombs on the port.

...Strange...

Hmmm that is strange. You might try poking around on your hard drive and making sure Explorer isn't caching an old client.cab file.

You might also want to experiment with another browser to rule out the firewall issue.

Poked around as you said and deleted the cab file. Now I could see it being picked up from wetcanvas instead.

Still did not work; no "applet running" and no error message!!

Probably a firewall issue. I will try from work tomorrow where I may have Netscape installed (I am not going to download it).

Hi, today at work I could still not get in. Here I do have some development tools and I was able to detect that there is an error that flashes by real quick in the message area at the bottom of IE4. It is a java lang error with the message "missing port number".

So... I tried adding port number as a parameter to the applet on the login page. Just guessing I added "port = 8300".

And NOW http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif the applet runs ok !!! But it can't connect http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/frown.gif
Tried the other ports you mentioned but the firewall probably stops those.

Still, the error with the missing port number needs to be looked into I think.

Henrik,

Weird. How big is the .Cab file that is downloaded. If it is around 109K or so, that's the old one. If it is around 120K, that is the new one.

I will investigate the port thing, although I may not get to it until tonight... :-(

Cheers.

Strange indeed. The .cab file (found among temporary internet files for my profile here at work) is 78.2 kb. I have deleted it again.

Got a new .cab file - it has the same size (78.2 kb). I am checking this by using View->Internet Options->TemporaryInternetFiles->Settings... and then using Properties on the Client.cab file downloaded from wetcanvas. (the only .cab I have).

scott, finally made it into chat. You learn things every day. Tried netscape, and that worked (on port 8300 i think). I got the 2.0 version in netscape. A friend told me how to get the Java console in IE4 (under View/Internet Options/Advanced - click "enable java console" and restart IE4. Now I saw that IE4 picked up version 1.5 even after having deleted it from my machine. I used find to make sure it was no longer there.

Well, I was running via a proxy and the proxy services has a cache. So via the proxy I picked up the old version even if I deleted it from the local cache.

Now I have managed to connect from at home. Thanks for all the support.
