A few weeks ago I came across a thread here where people manipulated a photo in Photoshop before painting. (Unfortunately, now I can't find that thread.) When I saw that technique, I knew that I'd found a way to paint a photo that has been calling to me for a while.

I really like this technique. I like the sense of drama it provides.
This is my first acrylic painting. About 2 months ago I took a class sponsored by Golden Paint that was an all day intensive intro to Acrylics. I was intrigued.

So with those 2 sources of inspiration, I started this painting.

Golden Fluid acrylic on 30"x40" canvas.

Gosh - this is awesome - hard to believe you have just started using acrylics - great edges and shapes - fantastic job on their mouths - often quite tricky with posterization

Kathie & Carol, thanks.
Kathleen, this is my husband and I. He didnít see it until it was done. He loves it.
Bizkit, Iíve seen some of your work with this technique and love the way you do it. Do you usually start with strongly lit photos?
Pat & Susan, thanks.
Elizabeth, I played a lot with the crop. I wanted the bare minimum on this one.
Ruth, The mouth on the left had me worried initially with the way the upper lip continued up into the nose. When the other colors went in, it looked better. Other areas of the face I did some simplifying adjustments.
Thank you all for your kind words.

You and your husband?
....Well, I now think it is absolutely wonderful!
This is just beyond words, and it shows the joy and love between you both so very well.
Painting yourself (and your husband) would be very hard to do I am sure.
One thing, I am so pleased that you did this in a larger size. A painting such as this needs to be large to have effect.
(Hope you don't have to change the decor of your Living room so it will match LOL)
