View Full Version : Ready to Ride

08-21-2008, 08:56 PM
With the rodeo starting next week I thought I would try a Western themed painting. And to stay motivated to finish I am doing it as a W.I.P.
This is as far as I got today. The horse is blocked in and I've worked on the blanket and straps.
12x16 in. canvas
Any suggestions along the way are always appreciated!

I enjoyed seeing the close-up shots too. It's always so nice to see other artist's approach. No reason for anxiety; this is fantastic! :D

Grace I appreciate the comments, thank you!
Elizabeth, thank you as always for the encouraging comments! They are greatly appreciated!:)

Well, I finished the saddle last night and am going to start and hopefully finish the rope today.
If anyone sees anything that still needs work (other than the rope) please let me know.
Thanks again for the kind comments!

08-23-2008, 07:04 PM
Today I got about half way finished on the rope. I knew this part would take a bit longer and be quite tedious. This should be my last update until I finish, hopefully by tomorrow!
Thanks again for any and all comments!

08-23-2008, 09:38 PM

08-24-2008, 05:50 PM
Thank you again Susan!
 Thank you Sam! I'm giving this to my brother for his birthday. He worked on a Ranch for years when he was younger. How is the move going?
Thank you Mz Sketch Pad for the kind comments! I really enjoyed painting the details (other than the rope).
Thank you Michelle!:) I don't know how to make the pictures post larger:(

08-24-2008, 06:04 PM
Your Brother is a lucky man to have that painting :)
The move is going good by the end of next week we will only have a bed to sleep in and a fridge and stove left and of course the tv lol.
All depending on a job I applied for it might be in lumby, if not there we are starting off in Penticton then we'll see where we want to settle once we get out there and explore abit. We'll be motelling it for about a month while we have fun exploring, but we figure it will be either penticton or kamloops or if this job comes through then the small town of lumby, either way we will be out there sometime next month :) the ticket is already bought for the plane. then its back to painting I go (i'm going through painting withdrawls right now lol)

08-24-2008, 09:27 PM
Thanks Sam, I hope he likes it. Good luck with the move and looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Thank you again Elizabeth!
Ruth, thank you for nice comments.I always start by painting the blacks and darkest values first and adjusting the other values from there.
Thanks again Kathie! I figured that since my OLDER brother (and I emphasize the older part) is turning 50  that he deserves more from me than just another lousy You're getting older card!

This is wonderful! If I had seen it without knowing who did it, I would have pegged it as a "Roger Evans". You have that same ability with details.

03-07-2009, 02:37 PM
Galye, that is such a generous comment, thank you! I would love to be able to paint as well as Roger :o
This is the amount of detail and type of work I enjoy painting the most. I find it very relaxing! :)

03-07-2009, 05:46 PM
Stunninly well painted. I love the "zoom in" composition and the details are so well done... I can almost smell the leather!
