This is my first attempt at a portrait. I decided to try a puppy first as they don't complain about the likeness!:D It is 8/10 in size an done with my koh-I-noor 0.4. I am still playing with values. Most of you know me as a mostly cross-hatch sort of guy, but the stipple allowed me to play with the shadows as bit more.

The subject is my grand-dog. He is a mini-daschaund and as the title states, the only ytime he stays out of trouble is when he sleeps! I have put the ref photo in so you can see the subject (all 6 lbs of trouble). - Chris

Art, thanks for looking!
Chris, I still have to darken him up a bit. Crosshatching I do OK with values. I am still a newbie to this stippling stuff. I am too impatient to dot-dot-dot enough to get it real dark!

It's hard ... but keep at it. Lol ... you know how dark you have to go but stippling is harder .... dot, dot, dot:D

You're doing well with your Puppy Chris -- it's a great Image to work from. You'll be surprised what a bit of depth in the appropriate places will do to this.

AWWW who doesnt love a puppy! Very nice so far  , but I think it might help to darken the blanket a bit...dont add the pattern though. It seems too white around him?

Thanks Chris. I am working to darken the darks, it is starting to stand out.
Robert, this stipple stuff is time consuming! I don't know how you work in the sizes you work! I would finish next year doing one half as big.
Val, Thanks for looking in. This is still a learning project and still in process.
LeAnn, I will work on the bed a bit Great suggestion. I will make a copy of the pic and try some techniques to see what works.

Here is an update of the darkened picture:
