Morning all
A hazy but pleasant morning here in West Lancashire.
Linda, I did look at the Colour pencil work - it's fabulous. My niece is a talented CP artist. I keep suggesting she joins wetcanvas, but so far ...
I had a call from the brass band player who was the subject of my painting. He is interested in buying the painting, but doesn't want to pay £50 for it framed. I thought that was a fair price. In a gallery it would be double. I emailed him an image and he is going to ring me when he comes back from holiday in a couple of weeks. Ruth says I should ask £35 as it is "no good to me".
Isn't Jana a lovely, talented lady? She has such a sweet voice.
Not sure what is planned for me today ;)

Morning Doug and all following.........
That picture seems a give-away for the quality of the work..but Ruth seems to have her thoughts!
As mentioned as I closed the Friday wash this morning I'm off to pick up a 'freecycle' printer this morning and once installed have a couple of letters to write..then hopefully will wet a brush or two as I have not done much these last couple of weeks...must admit I find it much easier to start an acrylic canvas off these days than a decent watercolour study..possibly because I can work much quicker...........
Weather, very unusual, bright and breezy and forecast not too bad..... yesterday rain free and got my front lawn cut, rather damp grass but it cut well on raised blades.Just talking to the young couple next door with two small children...they had been going camping in Cornwall this coming week but watched the weather forecast and decided to go to France instead, online bookings for ferry last night/online booking for site this morning and they are loading up now!...instant life.

Hiya Doug and all the rest to come ... another blustery day today and cold in the cold sunshine.
Cat (Tigger) allowed out this morning for the first time since surgery ... peace in the house at last. Came in quickly with the south westerly on the bare belly.
Went walking looking for gumtrees to photograph ... looking?? stupid ... we live in forest. No matter had a nice walk and took lots of photos of trees and bark (thanks Sylvia for implanting the idea)... when I work out how I will put them in the IRL. On one ironbark along the road there is a subtle nest of native orchids .... they are in bud ... will trip past in a week and check out the flowers . Saw them last year. No-one seems to notice them ... they are at foot level .... which is probably why they are still there.
Hope the rest of the world is either slumbering well or waking to a good day.

Good Morning all,
It is a little before 4:30 a.m. here in still-sleeping Oakwood. Another gorgeous day is in store for us. :D
Just zipping through at the moment, but will be back later with more chatter. For now though, just wanted to say
:music: HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CHAR (CharM)!:music: Hope you have a fantastic day today and all year to come, my friend.
Doug,
Maybe sell it to him just matted (no frame) for £35 and let him pay to frame it. I agree with both you and Ruth. By taking it out of the frame and lowering the price, it makes him think he's gotten a bargain. When he then has to buy a frame for it, he'll realize he should have taken your price to start with.
Geoff,
Hope your freecycle printer turns out to be a good "buy". ;)
Annie,
Glad Tigger was able to go outside for a quick walk. The photo of the tree with the orchids growing on it sounds like it will make a great painting. :D
 to all, I'm off now for a quick spin through the forums.

Happy Birthday Char
It looks as if its going to be a nice day today. James is going gliding. Poor him, its been a horrible summer for gliding, great for the garden but too wet for his big heavy glider. Lets hope the grass is not too soggy. So, with the men out the way that means lots of time to paint:) need to make the most of it, only two weeks left before the beginning of the school year:crying:
Doug, I think 50 pounds is very reasonable even for it unframed but if you want to sell it then the idea of selling it matted for less is good. he obviously doesn't know the price of frames.
Jana, beautiful harp playing
Uschi, your garden is looking fabulous

 everyone,
I'm up early to go to garage sales and make a "to do" list for DH for the next two days. He leaves Monday for a week in Toronto and there are a few things he has to get done before he goes. Then I am nightshift tonight and have open studio for our art club tomorrow afternoon. Not enough hours in the day.
Happy birthday Char!  May you have a great day, a wonderfully creative year ahead and health to enjoy it.
Doug - I like Sylvia's idea to sell it to him unframed and cheaper. :D
Jana - wonderful music for your friend's wedding
Geoff - I hope the printer works for you
Annie - glad Tigger is feeling better
Sylvia - enjoy your good weather
Ona - have a great day while you have time off to yourself.
I'm off and running keeping my fingers crossed that the rain will hold off until after garage sales.

:wave:Hi all from a beautifully sunny and cool Niagara.....good forecast too :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHAR !!
Geoff, printers can be a pain. My expensive HP multi-thingy stopped working on my puter so I gave it to my son the Geek and bought a new one. This one works very well, BUT, the old one set up perfectly, 1st time, on my son's machine:mad:
Ellen, enjoy the garage sales. Most of the local ones have been washed out over the last few weeks :crying:
Ona, looking forward to seeing more great stuff as you have time to paint while James is "slipping the surly bonds of Earth" today (LUCKY man)
Annie, our cats all seemed to hate the cold. Meg once accidentally locked one out in the snow and the cat literally snarled at her for a day :lol: Looking forward to seeing the tree orchids pics.
Doug, 50 pounds is a VERY reasonable price for that lovely picture especially if it is framed. I agree with the others; sell it for 35 pounds WITHOUT the frame and let him find out just how much it will cost him to frame it
Jana, you play the harp beautifully and I am sure your friends' wedding will be a wonderful musical success.
:wave:Allan and Sylvia, and all to follow. Have a lovely day.
Still awaiting word on The Move. The landlord is getting very upset with the other tenant. He owns both properties, this one too, but she won't answer his repeated phone calls so we don't know what is happening and he can't tell the new tenant for THIS one when they can move either.
Ah well, things must get better soon and then it will be Panic Stations trying to get everything moved. I HATE moving:mad::mad:

Good Morning Everyone!!! Bright and sunny one here.
First and foremost
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHAR!!!!!! Wishing you a great day and an incredible year ahead!!!!
I never watched any of these videos because I could only listen to or see 3 seconds at the time but now that Pat showed me that I can play these videos while I am doing something else and then just "replay" it I can watch them, so...
Jana, I thoroughly enjoyed your harp playing!!!!!!!!
Geoff, I would never touch another Epson printer, had several before and they constantly clogged up. Have had an Cannon for over a year and not one clog. Maybe you need to spring for a new one LOL
Ona, looking forward to your next painting!!!!!
Doug, either way is a gift to you because Ruth is right unless you want to enter it in a show.
Apart from going for my walk I have no idea what the day will bring, maybe play with my leaf painting.

Good morning all!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHAR!!
I'll be getting your rough WC paper possibly this week. So, whenever you are in the area, let me know.
Doug - It's a shame that he doesn't know the value of the work (or even the framing for that matter). He is however, your prime customer for this particular painting. If you lower your price, make sure he doesn't advertise to his buddies what he paid or you'll have the whole band knocking down your door for portraits!
Ona - Enjoy your painting day. Gliding sounds interesting. I'm not sure if he'd have a free hand while gliding, but does James ever take a camera with him to take some aerial shots?
Ellen - have fun garage saling. I hope you are going to get the same sunny weekend for it that they are forecasting here. Sunshine ... woohoo!
My recovery is coming along nicely. I'm able to to do mostly everything now, except lean back in a chair, but it's coming along a little more each day. I've been painting, but not watercolours ... bedrooms and furniture. More of the same today.
Have a great weekend!

Good morning! It was a chilly-willy night with the temp dropping to 10C... Steam rising from the lake this morning, because the water was so much warmer than the air, was positively surreal looking... the stuff of mystery novels... :)
Thank you so much for the Birthday wishes! This is my last year of being 50-something... :) And, for some reason, it feels hard... For the most part, I'm alone today, too, so that sucks... Ted is *showing* his truck at MoparFest this weekend, two of my Sons are far from home, my only Sister won't be coming down here till the end of the month and my youngest has to work today... I AM having lunch with my Mother, though! :)
So... I'll paint for a little while today... I have a still life on the board that has an incredible amount of detail... It took a couple of days to get it drawn out and I've begun laying the foundation washes...
When it warms a little, I'll take the peddle boat out onto the lake... I love the serenity... because it's cool, there won't be anyone out there to disturb the natural beauty...
Lunch with Mother... :)
Salsa... I HAVE to can up more salsa... those tomatoes just keep coming on!
Doug... I'm going to play devil's advocate... I respect your talent as an artist... and this portrait is truly exceptional... BUT... as Ruth has said, what on earth will you do with it??? *Giving* it away for a much lower price doesn't diminish your artistry, but does expand your munificence... this gentleman was never planning to purchase a painting... he would probably never have commissioned a portrait... *expecting* him to pay the going price for something he would never have bought in the first place seems almost unreasonable...
Geoff... you're painting in acr*lics??????? Wash your mouth out... :) Hope you get that printer working...
Hi Annie... what a nice walk, eh? For both you AND Tigger...
Good morning Syl... your new driveway is really looking nice... Ted and I saw something yesterday that I KNOW you'll want Larry to make for you... hehehe... now... this one is broken, but I'm sure you can imagine a brand new one... a SQUIRREL feeder!!!

Hi Ona... see??? My men are *out of the way*... I wish we lived closer, eh? Have a happy painting day!
Ellen, honey, there are NEVER enough hours in your days!!! You are the busiest lady on WC! I hate yard saling...
G'nite Allan!
Thanks, Lyn-sis... go out into the sunshine today! :)
Hi Denis... I don't know how you're able to deal with this other tenant... can she do what she's doing??? Wow...
Hi Uschi! Enjoy your walk while it's still nice and cool... and then, happy painting!
Thanks, Shelley! I probably won't be up that way till the Georgina *Imagine* exhibition... I hope that's ok... I can send you the money now, though... just pm me your mailing address...
I'm glad you're recovering... but painting walls and furniture?? Yuck...
...think I'll browse for a bit before heading down to the lake... sending love and hugs to all... especially for our John and Luella... and hoping your day is a happy and creative one...

Only fifty pounds? Framed? Doug, he is obviously ignorant of frame prices, let alone the value of the painting. The painting alone is worth much more than that.

Doug, I know times are getting tough but please don't undervalue your work, it's a cracking painting and at £50 framed an absolute bargain. He's very fortunate you're willing to sell.
Don't know how often I will be able to pop into WC for the next fortnight as I have my eldest grandchildren staying and I don't see enough of them. (have you ever tried to organise things for a 20 and 18 yr old?) it was much easier when they were young. Seemed to have had a lot of visitors this year, still, it's getting closer to autumn and things will quieten down a bit (I hope)

Good afternoon all,
Char Geoff... you're painting in acr*lics??????? Wash your mouth out........
I thought we were supposed to embrace all the waterbased mediums now?...and the A word is waterbased!
Uschi...Yes I have had several Epsons go down on me,never the clogging though usually because some bit of plastic has broken.......I have a new HP at work and it is unreliable and eats ink, (it replaced a 20 year old dot-matrix printer that only wanted a new ribbon every year and never ever broke down). The one that these two Epsons replaced also was a Canon and had same problems as the rest....I notice in my supermarket online shop today that a Brother printer/copier/scanner was for sale at £22.50 ie USD45 which is about the same cost of a full set of 'original' Epson cartridges!

Geoff, for a while a few years ago a Cannon Printer here was about the same price as replacement cartridges!! I bought a new printer one time rather than replacing the cartridges and then took the empty ones to Cartridge World where they filled them for about a third of the retail price. I never had ANY problems with refilled cartridges.
Incidentally, the salesman where I bought the printer told me the cartridges are only 1/3 to 1/2 full on a new printer
I bought "over-sized" cartridges for my new HP. They are the SAME size as the originals but are FULL of ink.
Just another scam I guess.

Another hot hot day forecast for today and the next 3 0r 4. I think it is a "heat wave" breaking all kinds of records. This coming after 2 days of heavy rain, everything is steaming! Well, for the first time in about three weeks we are on our own, but have more company coming for supper tonight.
We drove our friend to the airport yesterday morning and returned home a total of 6 hours driving time. After that, when it cooled off in the evening we mowed the lawn!!! Now I am trying to catch up on almost everything!

Doug, Ruth is probably correct in reducing the price a bit for this gentleman and like Char said, he wasn't planning on purchasing a painting. BUT do NOT underestimate your artistry.....that painting is VERY MUCH worth the 50 lbs you are asking.
Sounds like you all have plans for your day.....I hope it's a good one for you all.

Darla, unless you are a well renowned artist over here you can't give your art away. I will of course offer it to him for less without the frame, if he has it professionally framed it will cost more in the end.
I do however keep some of my work to reassure myself that sometimes I can produce worthwhile art.
Ruth has taken up and finished the stump work embroidery she started in Ontario last year from Jane Nicholas' book. Here it is in a 9x12 inch frame with a mirror behind it:

I only have the remainder of this year in my "50's" too, my next foray is on to the "super sixties!!"
A brisk morning here in Bodega Bay...watched a mother gull being badgered and chased by her two chicks...and the chicks were pretty clumsy yet and tumbling all over the rocks trying to get mom to dole out some food.
Last day here, tomorrow we'll head back north:( . Will certainly miss seeing my daughter and spending time with her. Have no plans other than spending time together today!
More than likely will not be checking into WC until tomorrw night when we park for the night on the way home!

have fun today!

Ruth's embroidery is GORGEOUS!!!!! I treasure the little one I have of hers!!!!
Today is a "best laid plans ....." day.Was going to shower and wash my hair after posting here. Had a little look at my leaf painting, saw something and quickly fixed it, saw more and fixed it, saw more .........  So the painting is done, composition  but I like the colours, will put it in the gallery in a little while.
So I showered at Noon, am sitting here eating Corn Chips because I couldn't find a thing I could eat for breakfast - am waiting for hair to dry (don't like using dryer) so I can go to the store and THEN going for my walk.
Char, Oh, Oh why did your sister not tell you before that she wasn't coming. You could have come with Ted and we could have had a lovely visit:crying: :crying:
Denis, I bought this particular printer because it goes with archival ink and since I make and sell prints that was very importnt to me so, expensive ink it is:rolleyes:

Well I have just picked up my second 'freecycle' Epson today, about 9 years old and works fine if somewhat noisy....the first one needs a disk for start-up so have asked the past owners to look for it as the programme downloaded from the net doesn't work on printer only scanner???
Have another monitor to collect in morning so going to set two Pc's up but only one internet connected at a time...my old one has massive files for letter purposes and due to differences in System the external hard drive won't hold the 'gen' and there is tooooooooooo much to translate onto floppies, which the other machine doesn't take anyway and the first one won't do CD burning.....so something else to get moaned at!

Hi again!
Yes Char, spending time with my daughter is really a lot of fun! She's in the grad students dorm (she's the security person as well as a grad student!) and we've just been sitting around the kitchen (NICE kitchen!!) having coffee and zuchinni bread someone made:thumbsup: ! A nice quiet day! Right now I'm at the library while wifey and daughter play with daughter's newest batch of "critters" (Cancer maenus, and philine auriformis) getting them ready for a new round of experiments once wifey and I head north tomorrow! When they come back we'll all go for a walk on the lab's property which is not open to the public and hopefully I'll get some good photographs of seashore life and waves and rocks and maybe even a few of daughter...if I can keep her from noticing I'm pointing a camera at her!:wink2:
Char, I have a sister like yours...they are the center of the universe and all the rest of us must revolve around their lives  . I once invited my sister over for a big dinner...then went away for the weekend! When I got back I told her "Now you know how the rest of us feel when YOU do that to us!"...She "behaved" for almost a month before slipping back into her old ways
Doug, your wife's needlework is beautiful! That sure looks like a lot of work! I didn't see any blood stains on it so she must be pretty skillful at it! I'd be wounded fairly often if I tried that!
chat with you all later!

They are very good. Thanks for the links
Do you know if he puts the wash on first or after the pen work? I have met a few pen artists and they had never met my method at all. They just used the wash of watercolor or ink for color and didn't actually use the brush strokes themselves to influence the pen.... that seems such a shame because it really makes the two work together and gives the painting such depth...well I never did fit in with the norm:lol:

Hi everyone - I'm pretty late today, but wanted to share 2 photos with you - I went out on my small deck (1 floor up, no steps to the ground, just enter off the kitchen), and found this little guy enjoying the sun, he's a northern alligator lizard:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/16-Aug-2008/122734-P1010762.jpg
I knew we had they here when I was a kid in the 50s, but haven't seen any since I moved back 3 years ago - my first reaction was: who put a plastic lizard on my deck! Then I was so I excited to see him, I had to remember to get my camera to take his picture.
And today my waterlilies have outdone themselves - 10 blooms:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/16-Aug-2008/122734-P1010763.jpg
I haven't been doing any painting lately, just very slowly working on a reduction cut relief print. I had a lot of floaters in my left eye a few months ago, and just as that seemed to clear up, they have appeared in my right eye - it's very difficult to concentrate when all of a sudden your eye goes blurry. Anyway, it is nice to hear how everyone else is doing. Betty :cat:

Good evening to everyone at Palette Talk.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Char. You are one of my idols in watercolor.
I did some canning today also: wild blackberry jam. Can't believe I did it on one of the hottest days here in Oregon. But, with my business down (real estate) I'm thinking that Christmas might be real spartan this year unless I start canning, cooking, knitting and painting. That's what Christmas is about anyway, isn't it? Giving of oneself, instead of The Mall?
Char, my top reasons to go garage saling:
1. Great gently used stuff that I give to my local community center for the disadvantaged and homeless. (Spend a couple bucks and walk away with something that will make a difference in someone's life.)
2. Picture frames - good ones.
3. Cameras for my vintage collection.
4. Good art supplies for above-mentioned community center. The at-risk kids in the programs there love to do art!
5. A project - a derelict piece of furniture that needs a rehab and a good home.
My advice to everyone: "try it; you'll like it".

Happy Birthday Char--you constantly inspire me and keep me trying. (And since I've just started my 50's, that gives me a lot of hope!)
I'm so glad that everyone had such a nice day today, since I had the butt-ugly day from heck that even I'm feeling a mite :crying:--and that takes alot. Let's see:
My wife is still out of work with nothing much on the horizon.
In between errands, I spent a nice sunny day in the basement working.
Water started leaking from the heating vent in the celing of my basement office. After the plumber came by, it looks like we've had a slow leak in the ensuite upstairs and/or just water collecting under the shower pan for years and the floorboards are rotten. So now we need to stop using that shower until we can renovate the bathroom--which ain't gonna happen soon (see above).
After picking up my car from the shop today and spending more money on it than I expected, all sorts of warning lights went off before I got off the the lot. Drove it back into the service bays and smoke started to pour out from under the hood--turns out some wires were shorting out after they had shampooed the engine. They gave me a loaner car and I went home to finish working.Best part of the day was that Raffi and I had our usual Saturday night movie night, cuddling on the couch watching "Raiders of the Lost Ark"--something I know he isn't gonna do that much longer.
Sorry, to bring everyone down but I needed to complain to somebody. Feeling better already...

Poor Lawrence - the problems always come together don't they. Don't worry about unloading your problems here, there's always someone to listen and sympathise.
I hope your day today is much better.
I think the garage should be held responsible for the short if they didn't dry off the engine.
