 Hello Artists

The weekly pastel sketch thread is for ALL pastelists of all skill levels who use soft pastels, hard pastels, or pastel pencils.

The idea is to fit some sketching time into your week by completing a sketch in one hour or less. You can sketch anything, whether it be from life or photos.

It's a good idea to time your sketch, keeping it within 60 minutes. You know how time flies when you’re creating! So, get your pastels out, set a timer, and when your time is up, please post your sketches here and share your efforts with us!!

Check out all last week's sketches!

Hey everybody  .

No Scotty, you don't have to be the first, I take my heart in all hands and show what I've done.

Today I received my new, first pastel set - 72 Jaxells. Cheap but good, it was a recommendation and I am pleased with them.

Of course I had to do a quick sketch or better two - really quick.

Jaxell on Colorfix paper:

This one is a mixture of Jaxells and some (four) Schminckes on black Hahnemuehle Velour:

These are my first pastel sketches. I like the Jaxells very much but the Schminckes are really great.

Oh boy! That's wonderful Martina. I hear they are terrific pastels!

I Love all the color in your sketches. You're going to have a ball testing all those gorgeous colors out!

Do you have a picture of your new set?

Very nice Martina I like the color, I've never heard of the Jaxells, are they soft, medium or hard pastels? Was the set a full set or halfs?

Thought I might have to be the first and here it is already thursday, but Martina beat me to it :). This is on Trazano with Nupastels and some Schminckes took about 15 min. not one of my better ones.http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/24-Jul-2008/125922-Pastels_001.jpg

Thank you both for your encouraging words!!!

The Jaxells are somewhere between medium and soft - I don't know Nupastels or FC Polys but they must be much softer than both. I like them very much.

Here is a photo:

Paula,
can you explain what a ball testing means? Sorry for the poor english.:o
If it means that I will sit and paint with all the colors today or making kinda color chart (though this is not necessary with pastels *lol* wysiwyg is great!) - YEEEEEEES!!!

*lol* Ha! ;)
Maybe - only maybe not one of your best but I like it very much. It is glowing and looks like a misty full-moon-night in a fairy land.

Hi Scott, The colors are beautiful together, so, even though you say it's not one of your best, I bet you sure learned a bit more about color theory!

Hi Martina, WOW! Those are gorgeous and they are square!!! I LOVE square pastels.

Me too but I didn't knew it before. *lol
It is much easier to get crisp edges and for me they are easier to grip.
and another thing of the Jaxells is that they dont go down so fast. And they make/have less crumble/dust. (Please fill in the right form.... :D)

:lol::lol::lol: You bet!!

Cool, count me in as a square pastel fan. I hate non-square pastels. Very nice vibrant colors too with those Jaxells. Scott, yours has a real eerie feel to it IMHO. Cool, and rather otherworldly looking.

The week is almost done, but I'll throw in a little something. I had such fun working on my copper pot in art class this week - so today I just spent 10 minutes with my 12 conte pastel pencils (on a 4 x 5 1/2 piece of gray Canson, smooth side) and just tried doodling another pot.
