Can anyone direct me to some good demos on water reflections in pastel? I tend to blend mine with my little finger a bit, and am losing the freshness of the individual strokes on the top layer. Thanks.

Jim.

Here are a couple that were posted by Deborah Secor. They may help.

Jim,
Here is a little trick. In order to disturb the surface reflections on water, try using a color shaper to make those small ripples and breaks. It tends to pick up the top color and reveal the darker color underneath. A color shaper has a paint brush handle, but instead of bristles there is a white, chiseled rubber tip. Dianna Ponting uses small ones, but on water I use the larger size.
I also use the shaper to lightly blend the foamy areas on and around breaking waves in seascapes. :)

Helen, the freshness of Deborah's strokes helped me to see I'm overworking more than I thought I was. Needed to see that. Thanks.

Water girl, must look into the tool you mentioned. Sounds like it might help. Thank you.

Jim.
