A lovely piece. Nice monochromatic work. Great texture to the hair. I'm not sure about the eyelashes, though. I love the hands and the ring.

Very nicely done! Being who I am, I tried to read them...but other than seeing that they are not lashes, I could not. Again, being who I am...I now want to know what they say...lol!

Ohh... I love that! can you take a close up shot of that?

My first thought was--I remember that student! Her name was Molly--seriously looks like a girl I had in class, taking a nap. (She actually didn't nap in my class, but often came in late with McDonald's in tow. I told her she couldn't get away with it unless she brought me potato cakes--she did the next time!:smug: )

Anyhow, all that aside, although I obviously have an association of feelings with this painting, I find it quite wonderful! The position and composition, the strong values all appeal to me. I am really curious about her eyelashes!!!:wink2:

Nice original twist on the eyelashes. Great portrait too. Her hair is very well done. One of her eyes looks just a hair off center when measuring from the corners of her nose, and perhaps one looks smaller than the other.

The eyelashes were an issue for me too but now I understand what you are trying to do with them. That is a very clever idea. No crits from me with this. Well done.

Great monochromatic piece...especially love the hair. Great idea with the words and thanks for the close up! I've been turning and twisting my head here but I still can't make out what it is supposed to say.

Nice work. I can make out a few of the words, but not all.

Thanks everyone...this is one of my favorite pieces but sometimes you miss some of your own mistakes! Thanks for the encouragement from fellow artists who understand what I am asking for better than my non artistic friends and family! LOL

This is a very cool creative idea -
I wonder whether maybe lighten the 'lashes' / words as they come outwards - already you have done a great job of making it fine - this may sound a dreadful idea but may try a tiny bit of fine sand paper and rub over the tips of the lashes finely - it might just make the lashes look finer from a distance and still keep your great creative concept.

I shall sleep better at night now.:D I could make out just a few, and figured some were repeated, then I wondered if it was actually a poem.

Anyhow, before I even knew there were words, I liked the eyelashes--it reminded me of some of the clumpy mascara jobs I've seen--especially on young girls who have just started to learn to apply it and haven't quite got the hang of it. Or don't wash the previous gook off before starting a new layer..:D
