Mette Rörström
07-13-2008, 01:23 PM
Hello, RASchutter!
Lowely painting!

I am still working on the oilpainting of Azul´s husband....

If the pictures loads darker...?
No, not mine...
They are like I see them on my computer...

07-13-2008, 02:50 PM
I have a question, being new to WC. Does this apply in any way to Classical art? Is there something specific we are looking for ... or is it just our version in a painting or drawing?

Thanks, atelier_m

Hi all, We just got back from vacation. I got hold of someone's laptop though and we all oooood and aaaaaahhhhd at these wonderful offerings. So much to comment on that I just waited to get back.

RAS - this is wonderful. The skin tones on the knees and hands is vibrant life like, the weapons angles are so convincing!!!!!!! That is just the way he holds his mouth too. Bravo

The Bruges canal is beautiful. My daughter that took the photo was quite impressed with your work. I love the melting blending on the right and all the detail on the left, the water and reflections are wonderful. You have worked at this craft a long time by the looks of your skill level.......to be admired.

Mette - The Big Foot is poetry in motion, the clothes, horns and hair surround the snarl . The mouth is wet and juicy , the eyes transfixing the prey......great piece
On the husband, just so much light in that one, bouncing off the cap, sword, off the shirt, and the rifle stands so fine tuned. Love the blinds and clothes in the backgrounds....nice unity of color there.

atelier - Hi and welcome....you can do whatever you like with the photos...... Trafford's BigFoot is enjoying an ice cream with the kids, whatever... let the sparks fly ....we're looking forward to seeing what happens

Here's my WIP done on vacation. I had to stop cause I have not learned how to mix up a satisfactory black and my books were at home. But now I think I'll go back over it with the pen and ink us this as an underlayer.....we'll see what happens.

07-22-2008, 02:26 AM
Hi azul. I love this watercolour as is. I don't think it needs black or ink.

Mette Rörström
07-22-2008, 07:01 AM

07-24-2008, 08:32 AM
Jasmine---Yes it is watercolor. W/N and Daniel Smith paints.
Azul-- Thanks for the kind comments. Glad hubby and you like the painting, people at work liked it also. Azul you might try Viridian and Alizarin Crimson and then add a touch of Ultramarine if needed for a good black. Thank your daughter for me also. I really like the way the canal turned out too.

07-24-2008, 08:33 AM
Tyree, that saturation really does give it an old phot look. Nice touch.

07-24-2008, 08:15 PM
thanks roger:D ....azul..wonderful piece, looking forward to your finish!!! tyree:wave:

07-30-2008, 01:08 AM
June - thank you for the compliment but I just felt it wasn't finished at that point

Jasminerose - welcome and yes the canal is peaceful and reflective, looking forward to seeing it thru your eyes and hands

Tyree - charming effect, the circle crop and split background work great with the diagonal weapons and fearless eyes. What do you use to saturate it with? coffee?
I really like the negative drawing on the beard

RASchutter - thanks for the recipe for black. It is on my to do list this week..

Here's the finished warrior husband and the Renaissance Badcat.

07-30-2008, 02:35 AM
Hi azul...I love your Renaissance guy. Beautiful drawing and colours. Husband looking great too. I haven't managed to do anything yet. Lucky we have 2 months.

07-30-2008, 08:37 AM
Azul - Very interesting line work in both. Captured the spirit of each I'd say.

07-30-2008, 11:23 PM

08-17-2008, 03:41 PM
Hi Susan, June,
I was up at 5 painting. :)

Not much I can do about the quality of my photos but you can get the gist of the painting I hope. :)

Azul, what color are his eyes?
I'm having trouble giving him tooo big a sword. :)
Isn't this called a bayonet?

08-17-2008, 04:30 PM
looks very good Nickel. nice to see the WIP too.

08-17-2008, 08:19 PM
Nickel, I really like what you did with this, the background is wonderful, the facial expression is enjoyable , the whole thing is captivating... the way it looks flat and then 3D .....tricky.

I think this one is my favorite of all .

I hope to get to the canal this week.

08-18-2008, 01:56 PM
Thanks Azul. I'm hoping to make it an interesting painting. I'm looking forward to painting his beard but that will be toward the end since I work dark to light. :) Looking forward to seeing your canal.

June I'm looking forward to you catching up :) We always have so many fun things to do. It's like going to a big picnic and trying to eat everything. I will do my best. :)

08-18-2008, 11:27 PM
well everyone has done a wonderful job . im afraid mine is not good . I got tired alot and a lot off pain at the moment but here it is . my effort . in pencil . http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/18-Aug-2008/97398-Tuesday,_19_August_2008_drawing_canal.jpg

08-19-2008, 09:03 AM
Jasminerose, I am glad you got to join us and I am sorry you are in pain; pain can make you very tired. You do have a good control of light and dark in your drawing. It really does have a mood going on; so you did good. :)
I do hope you will join us next month or do another one of Azul's pictures.

08-19-2008, 07:47 PM
thankyou nickel , yes i just know that i could have done much better if id spent more time on the detail but got tired . the other pictures scare me too much , the angry men . i need something that helps me forget angry men . lol but if i can may do the canal in watercolor . see how i go . jasmine

08-20-2008, 05:34 AM
Hi Jasminerose, Please do try the canal in watercolor.

I just noticed you are from Australia so you may not recognize that these men in the photos are dressed in costume for period re-enactments events and are not meant to scare anyone. I hope that will make you feel better. If the photos bother you, please just wait till next month and chose another happier type photo from a project or paint/draw your own subject.
:) Hugs, Nickel

08-21-2008, 06:08 AM
 nickel....wonderful...love the bg too!!!!~~~~~jasminerose...beautiful piece, love the contrasting dark and light!!! hi azul:) hi junebug:) tyree

08-21-2008, 08:00 AM
Finally caught up!! I feel like celebrating.

Don't know if its much of a likeness etc, but I had a good time painting it. Small, 5 by 7 ins., watercolour. I am doing my watercolours strong and with no underdrawing at the moment to see how I get along. This is my secondusing this approach.

Here's Andy.

08-21-2008, 08:02 AM
Hi Jasminerose. I really love your drawing of the canal. It reminds me of the European art of the twentieth century. Particularly expressionist works.

Mette Rörström
