Well, I am doing version 2. Much more confident with this one than the first. I am sure it will go much faster.

This is the start of it.

Oh, it is much larger as well. Using a full sheet (19x25") of La Carte.

Wow! Looking great so far!!
19x25 this time round....do you find it easier, harder to work larger? The deep dark background is very rich, a perfect setting for the soon to be star of the show!

I am finding it easier to work larger. Much more room to lay colour and blend.

I'll have more time this week to get some more done and post some updated pics.

Thank you everyone for your vote of confidence. :)

Woa, good news with this one...

I placed the WIP on my blog and I was contacted by a buyer to buy it even before it was finished! Too cool!!!

So, now I have to get back at it. Started on it again last night and it is coming along nicely.

I use the Ponting method. :D

Sketch the scene onto cartridge paper (I decided to place in many areas of colour shift as well), then coat the back of the paper with white pastel, place on pastel paper and trace over your drawing. The white pastel on the back transfers over to the pastel paper, then your ready to go.

Hope that made sense. :D

If I showed you the photo you would see how much the shifts stand out. The tricky part was placing them in the right spot. A grid would have helped a lot, but did I think of that before hand? No.... Lots of referencing, over and over.

First I pull my hair out and then somehow it happens. :D hehe

The shine comes from all the tiny reflections I have to get in there. Drives me batty, but I love it when I am done.

This particular painting is from a set of a few hundreds shots I took last year.

I do have a ref photo in the RIL that is close to it...

The colours are astounding. You have a wonderful talent for photography too from the looks of it!
Are you using Terry Ludwig reds or another brand...I remember that quite awhile ago you told us here at W/C you had a big pastel order arrive and how excited you were about them. You had purchased several brands and I am wondering what is being used in this beautiful painting?

For me the apple never really popped off the page until I got more of the base down. Always satisfying to see a painting at this stage.

Dang! Now I know I have to buy myself some Unisons. :D
Dianna always says they are amongst her favourites but I have procrastinated about sending in an order. I would have stayed with what I already have on hand providing the red you are using was TL. However, the shade of red in your candy apple is so gorgeous I am just going to have to put in a Unison order after all.

I love the way this is turning out. I can understand why you see a few little things to finish off with, but it's there. It's bold, it's real, it's powerful and it shines as if I'd stick to it as soon as I touched it. Mmmmmmm!

You're tempting me to try something this photorealistic sometime. Beautiful painting. I can see what Violet said about the angle of the reflection of the stick, except that I think that you got it right to express the angle of the table vs. seeing the vertical stick. It looks right to me with eerily perfect perspective.
