Hey all,

For those of you that know me well, some time ago you would have heard me talk about my plates (and probably not much else). Well FINALLY, the pics were developed and scanned, so I have them here for you now. There's a close-up of the dinner plate when it's finished and ready to be fired, then a larger pic of the full set, in various stages of completion.
In case anyone doesn't know, here's the background story, in a nutshell.
Some 6 months ago I moved out of home, and knowing that neither myself nor my roomie had any plates, decided to make my own. My mother is a professional potter (Tj's just posted a thread about it in the Cafe, if you're interested in seeing some of her work :) ), so I asked her to do me up a set. Instead of just glazing them, I decided to put in HOURS of back-breaking effort to paint them (using underglazes) to my own specifications - as everyone should know, I'm an Egyptian fanatic. :D Anyways, here's the final product. Each one took on average of 2-3 days of *solid* work - 9 to 5, no arvo break type stuff. *L* I had planned to use them as an everyday set, but now after all that, I think I'll just save them for a special occasion. Lol.

Your plates are beautiful !! Where did you find the pictures to copy off of? I love Egypt as well and am looking for good graphic references.

Those are absolutley splended. What a great subject. I would have never thought of using the egypt theme for plates. I also think the colors work well. Good Job.

Crystal Owl>> Thanks, I'm glad you like the designs. I got most of them out of a book on Egyptian mythology - can't remember which one at the moment because I'm away from home. I have a mini-library devoted entirely to Egypt (I'm a fanatic, can't you tell? ;) ), so it's never hard to come across pictures. Most of the ones I did for the plates I had to alter a bit though. Sometimes because the true image didn't fit well in a circular area, or other times because I just wanted it another way - like the one with Hapi (the blue and green ones), the cartouche in the middle should be of Rameses II, but as I don't particularly like him, I put someone's name in who I respect a whole lot more: Hatshepsut! :D
Anyways, if you're looking for a particular pic, let me know and I'll give you a hand (I never mind looking up Egypt stuff *G*). As soon as I get my damn scanner working again I can send anything through.
