Well, here we are, a brand new month. Hope everyone is planning on having a good summer. I only have two words to describe my summer... SUMMER CAMP! :p

I'll be working longer hours, so I'll be in and out. Hopefully I can at least get the CF done this month. I hate not having time for art. :( Oh well...

Anyway, hope everyone's doing well! :)

The Tavern threads are a great way to get to know one another better, a place where newcomers can introduce themselves, and where everyone can just say hi and relax. Anything pretty-much goes in the Tavern! This is a place where we can talk about our life, talk about fantasy/sci-fi subjects (or not!), and keep each other posted on the work we are doing on the rest of the site. No one is ever obligated to stick to one topic or discussion. So come on in!

I have survived the horrors of being very ill XD Its just typical, i get a week off invigilatoring due to half term. I planned to get a heap of stuff done and bam! i get struck down all week and spend most of it curled up in bed trying to keep food down >.< So now i feel very weak, got to go back work tomorrow and I'm a week behind on stuff i planned to do. yay for life! -.-
Hope everyone else is faring better than me, and at least summer camp is fun distraction from artwork BD ^^

cats are on a diet and not liking it. I've instituted the 20-minute rule (if the food's not eaten in 20 minutes it gets put away until the next meal) to persuade them to tuck in. A few missed meals might to their tubby-ness some good. The hard part is resisting the cute pleese-to-fee-us-nao looks. :cat:

I finished school for the year yesterday, so now I have to figure out all my summer stuff....some sleepin' in, some prep for my masters degree, some prep for next school year and....yes....wait for it....studio time!

Ang, I hope your camp ordeal turns out for the best.

I have had difficulty making time for art these past weeks, but now I have joined Nanomango (http://community.livejournal.com/nanomango/) over on livejournal - it is a challenge to create 30 pages of sequential art in 30 days. O.o! I just might be a bit in over my head, and I think I will be very happy if I make it to 15, but it is all fun!

I really like the creature feature this month, so we will see if I can squeeze it in somewhere. ;)

Well, things are picking up for me. We got a new computer! YAY!!! A Dell with a 22inch screen so my tools are now off to the side when developing art(thank you tax break):) . My Mom has started selling some ACEOs for me on ebay. Most of those are nature and architecture inspired watercolor pencil but I've been sketching sea dragon/serpent/people stuff lately so some fantasy stuff may work in. It's too early to tell whether this is going to be profitable for us.
Chaosia - hang in there, I know what ya mean. My kids are finally old enough for a summer of swimming and I'm about to have surgery(hysterectomy). Guess the swimming will have to wait. It's funny how the doctors and nurses are surprised I was even able to have kids - I guess miracles happen every day.:D They're even CUTE miracles, except when whining!

Hope your hysterectomy goes well, Bluedaisy. I'll be praying for you.

Oh, Chaosia, I do hope you are feeling better. And trust me, I would much rather be doing art... LOL!

A small number of kids is OK, 2 dozen at once will make you pull your hair out! It's not the same as school where they have to sit and work. You teeter on the line between chaos and control in order to keep the kids having fun. It can be rewarding, but it's very stressful (for me, anyway). We have 5-6 year olds this week. A lot of them pick on each other, and one kid spit on another today. Next week will be better, they're older, less whiny. :D

And it's good to see others making time for art!
- Bluedaisy, you will definitely have to share your fantasy ACEOs! :)
- Opal, have fun with the studio time!
- Marie, OMG! That is a quite an undertaking, but good for you! I would never make it. I've been working on the CF for three days now...

Opal - Thank you. It's in a couple of weeks. I will love to see some of the work you produce this summer.:)
hrymfaxe - just wanted to say WOW! What a great way to hone your skills and improve in a short period of time.
bayoudragon - LOL I would pull my hair out too if I had 2 dozen! Good Luck!

A question for cat owners - what is your favorite breed or do you think all cats are the same? I'm planning on getting two cats(prefer sibs) later this year. I prefer purebreds but since Russian blues are more rare they are really too pricey for me. (I am considering Bengals but they might be too troublesome:cat:) Any thoughts?

chaosia

Burmese cats are very lovable, hehe i have two >.> but i do love the good old common tabby cat or tortishell's as their coat's are very pretty. Male cats tend to be soppy once neutered and pester for attention and females can be schitzo >.>
Russian blues are gorgeous! i want a bengal too but they also rather costly aren't they? Abyssians(i can't remember spelling) are meant to be good pets too. I'm trying to remember off the top of my head.
Is well at last but busy week and not got round to any artwork in over a week now :(

Hi there people. It's great to see you're all about and arty still. I apologize for my long silence. The job has been tough lately due to a massive increase in sick co-workers and vacations = = I barely had any time for art either, which is positively driving me nuts.

I hope I can be around more often again, but I, too will be in and out. :(

Well, since I don't really have any artwork to share, I thought I'd show everyone where my creative energies have been going. Here's the pic, as promised! :D

The plants are in! Some of them have a little growing to do, and some of them already need trimming since I took this pic! :p

My 55 gallon experiment! :)

I could too, I love pretty fishes!

I'm diving in to say hello after not being on here for ages and ages and ages! I've been doing little sketches & doodles (usually on my breaks at work) but not any 'finished' drawings. So I'm hoping to have a dabble and see if there are any exciting challenges for June to get me all fired up with enthusiasm!

Here's one of my latest doodles:

Hey everyone! Hope you all are doing well!

Been trying to keep myself busy, though I'm between jobs and trying to figure out what to do now. Either more school or another job or what.

In other news I did finish that coloring of the FireBird and I forgot to show you guys till now, sorry about that. Here it is! http://fc02.deviantart.com/fs27/f/2008/147/2/1/FireBird_by_LeoEyes.jpg

Hello all
We are back in the woods after our visit to the big smoke. I met our new granddaughter for the first time; lovely at six months; but you wouldn't expect me to say less. I got re-acquainted with our two grandsons, one 11 the other 2. It was a great time. The kids threw us a party for our 40th anniversary, so we got to see some old friends we've not seen for a time. Alas only one was at our wedding, we've lost touch with the others...great time though!

When we brought our dogs home from the kennel, they went wild being back in the open, stretching themselves out after the relative confines of the kennel.

I can get back into artistic endeavours now that we are back. It's cold and wet here at the moment, so conducive to some inside drawing. I hope those of you in the north have most enjoyable vacations.

Regards Phil

Bayoudragon - Ooooooo, that tank IS art!
Chaosia - I looked up Abyssinians. Very nice cats too! And even more pricey than Bengals in my area. Soon I'm going to have to decide whether a purebred cat is justifieable for my lifestyle. After all, I still don't have a sofa, or entertainment center, or dining chairs, LOL. I hate inviting people over to sit around the table in folding chairs.:o

Bayoudragon: what a beautiful fish tank - they are good to watch when you need to relax a bit!

Bluedaisy: Ooohh I would love to have a cat as well! But the apartment is a little too small and the boyfriend is allergic.. Damn! Purebreds are beautiful, but I like the common housecat the best (and they are cheap too! )

Tigereye: that is a beautiful Firebird. Thanks for stopping by with the final version, I remember it from earlier.

Angela: Nice doodle - I hope you will have a go at the creature feature this month - it's an interesting challenge.

Philbow: I can just imagine your dogs going wild at being back! And probably marking their territory again quite intensively! ;)

Anyway - I have completed 6 pages for the sequential art challenge over at livejournal. You can see the results here (http://community.livejournal.com/nanomango/368412.html?#cutid1). Btw, it is based on Tolkien's work Silmarillion... I'm obviously not going to make it to 30, so my new goal for this month is 16 pages. They are A3 in size, so it takes some time to fill out the page... (exuses, excuses...)

Marie, that is impressive. That is a lot of work! :)

Bluedaisy, I had the fold out lawn chairs (with cup holders and foot rests) in my living room for the longest time! :D I would go with either the furniture or the cat... but not both. No more indoor cats for me. They shredded everything! >.<

I love cats and would love to have one, but I'm allergic. =-( So it's doggies for me!

BD- angels and livebaerers- nice combo. The angels will love eating the livebearer fry (the smarter ones who hide will survive). Keep an eye on the angels though, if they decide to pair up and start a family they will beat the heck out of other fish. I'm liking the broken vase/urn.

My neon tetra tank is not going well. I am sorely tempted to feed the tetras to my angelfish and start over with tiger barbs.

Cats- well, mine have been rescued moggies, but each cat will have its own quirks. I'm currently spoon feeding one of mine because she is sick and has become even more finicky and refuses to eat her prescription diet.

bayoudragon
06-11-2008, 06:58 PM
ooooh, I LOVE tiger barbs. I always had them growing up, and that was what I had originally wanted to put in this tank. But the others suckered me in! Tigers are actually very good if you keep them in a nice big school - where they can act normally. I hate when people tell me how mean they are. Four tiger barbs do not make a school! They are not mentally happy in small numbers and they show it.

OK, I'm off my soap box now.

LOL, it looks like tetras for lunch. Poor babies. I'm thinking about going to the store today to look for khuli loaches for my tank.:)
I'm not sure how it translates, but bengal kittens can be found here for $500 if you are only looking for a pet. I am not planning to breed or show. A stray from the pound costs $110 at least, and no assurances of health or upbringing. Some of the catteries also include a startup kit with adoption which I value at about $100-$200. The upbringing part is important to me as I already have scars on my lip from being bit by a cat who wasn't socialized properly.:(

Animal rescue is definitely not easy. It makes one wish there was some way to communicate with the rescued animal and find out what happened to him or her in his or her previous life. So far we have had two rescue dogs with issues and two with no issues, three if you count Daphne who we got as a pup. But I expect we will continue to rescue because we want to try and save the lives of the dogs least likely to be adopted--typically an older, large breed dog in a dark color (black dogs are hard to place).

*goes to the states to buy a bengal kitty as $500 is like £250* XD or onefrom the pound that would be cheaper lol..my burmese cats are from a line of show cats but we picked the two out of the litter with faults. My cat Fudge has a kink in his tail near the tip and Wispa has a line of white fur on his leg and his nose is always very dry hehe so not show standard XD. Besides i'd never show a pet cat, those things don't look very fun for the cat.
Though good thigh is they don't shred everything, just carpet on bottom step got killed but we've deterred them from that. They just have a tendency to chew paper and plastic...which ain't good. They do however molt 24/7 365 days a year XD fur everywhere!
i still want an aquarium...all this talk of fishes is getting to me lol though if i got one at my mum's the cat there would just sit watching them all day. WHen i have place of my own it going to be a menagerie...cats, fish and snakes XD maybe a harris hawk too...>.>
eilu- hope your kitty gets better ^^

on a note of art...mines kinda taken a more kinky side for awhile and thus i have to work out if they suitable for here, when they've finished. Iam blaming my two muses Jef and scott for this. I still have my dragon to finish too and a portrait...

Anyways back from Madeira, there are no beaches...and it lacked cocktail bars...i was disappointed but still had a good time.
Also, I have been accepted to do a masters at Edinburgh University. I kinda applied on a whim and wasn't expecting to get a yes, so kinda umm in shock?

Chaosia - congratulations! What kind of Masters are you aiming for?

My surgery went well and I'm up and about. I was lucky enough to get a robotic assissted laporoscopy. I was also lucky enough to be allergic to something used around the incisions so I now have extremely itchy weeping sores which I am not allowed to cover with anything latex-ish or with anything adhesive. Luck for me I save my husbands old cotton undershirts so now
I look like a mummy. Maybe it's time for another self-portrait, LOL:lol::rolleyes:
I have managed to go see Wall-e with my kids. It was a cute(and odd) movie - anyone else see it yet?

Quite happy to see wetcanvas up and running again, I missed it! ;p

Bluedaisy - I haven't seen Wall-E yet but I thought it looked cute. I may rent it when it comes out on Dvd.

Movies I'm really itching to see are Prince Caspian, The Dark Knight, Wanted and Get Smart. Too many movies I want to see this summer!

Just have to scream this out: DIABLO 3 HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED! OMG, omg, omg... *calms down*

Kitties are doing fine, gaining weight- Kisner has started eating on her own. She has a nasty crop of acne on her chin though, and the ointment to put on it smells terrible. X(

Just filed all the paperwork for my upcoming board exams- apparently, government offices don't like efficiency, neatly labeled departments or chairs for people waiting. Took me 4 hours, but it's all done. :p

Diablo 3... squeeeeee.......

On my end, I bought me a new printer/scanner... so no more obnoxious blue line to edit out on all my art scans. WOOT!! :D
