I've decided to try to put some bubbles in my beads tomorrow, does anyone have any tips to offer? I found a great tutorial on ISGB by Shari at Silver Moon Creations, here is the link:

The tutorial is great, but I'm wondering about color combinations? Which colors will make the bubbles really stand out? Transparent??? I figured that a clear top layer would make a big difference, any suggestions, tips, hints...

Lets see if this picture shows up. For this bubble bead I used two very contrasting colors and then encased with clear...but any light colored transparent really will magnify the bubble. When I punch for the bubble I send the tungsten pic almost to the mandral....hence the 3-d tulip looking design surronding the bubbles. Good luck tomorrow....and lets see your final bead.:)

Another tip..try to poke all of the dots to the same depth into your bead for best results. I often use a dark opaque base. Add white dots with a transparent color over the white. Melt in. Place indentations. Encase in clear.

for larger bubbles I use the clean stamped end of a small or medium mandrel. Sometimes I gotta have them bigger.
HI Misty:
I agree, two very contrasting colors. I made my first plungers with two very similar colors and you couldn't see the bubbles.
That tutorial shows two layers of dots, it is very nice but, if you're new to this, one color might be easier than you'll be competely focused on your bubble.
Good luck, post a pic okay?

Misty...it's also fun to use clear as the base and then make opague dots in contrasting colors with clear over them. That way you not only get the bubbles but when you look at them from the side you get to see the poke through the clear. I'll to upload an example...but I'm still on my first cup of coffee and I'm supposed to be on my way to work!
Later,
Kathy;)

Hi Misty,
I like to put a tiny dot of a darker color in the center and plunge that...Also, if you plunge and wiggle the hole bigger, then put a transparent raised dot on top of it you have an effect that looks like a magnifyed(sp) hole..I'll look for a photo of that..Here's one plainer one. One has silver dots strewn across..ignore them.

Corina Tettinger told me how to do these back when I was clueless.
