A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: The Solar System in Glass
Project Leader: Tink
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Glass
Medium: Other
Subject:Glass- Solar System
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

In the Usenet newsgroup rec.crafts.beads, mention was made of how cool a set of beads based upon the solar system would be. I've been thinking about it ever since, and talking about it to anyone who will listen.

Every planet in our solar system has unique qualities and a distinctive look. The challenge of this project is to capture the essence of the solar system in glass.

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/browse_details.php?proj_id=238)

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

I'm working on Jupiter right now... Trying to decide on colors for the base bead. I think I started with Jupiter because I want to do the Big Red Spot ;)

I think I'll use dots of silver for Jupiter's satellites.

Also, here's another link that give GREAT images and info for this project:
http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/features/planets/planetsfeat.html

I'll post pics along the way, and hope others do the same!

Thank you Kokopelli and Kathy.....the bead was one of those very fun stressful things. I couldn't believe how intense it all was till I got it in the kiln and it was still round. Then I had to wait way tooooo long to see if it really did turn out like I thought it would.

I really want to be more COSMIC! My son and I saw a Sci Fi flick and it has inspired me to make my galaxy type beads more galactic.

Any one have any favorite tips they would like to share on how they like to put the COSMOS in their beads?

Thanks,

Suzanne

Suzanne,
I wish I could help. The universe, galaxy and planets of all kinds are what is in my heart. If a piece I have made speaks to me like the images I see from the great telescopes of earth I have made it. Look at the sites that picture such wonders.
