I now have two kinds of pastels and now I am wondering how to store them and also make them easy to take to class. The boxes they came in will not last very long. I have looked at Dick Blick and I see a few but just wonder what a newbie should get first.

Thanks,
lindash

Hi lindash and welcome!

You might consider loading up a Tupperware style plastic container with a snap-on lid with some cornmeal and placing your sticks in that, but if you have too many that's not practical. It works to take along a few sticks, keeps them clean, and you can shake the box and the sticks come up to the top.

Sometimes my students use tackle boxes with the foam inserts from their pastel boxes, or they get foam in a sewing store. I think there are some homemade versions of boxes with padding on the forum somewhere... Let me see...

(check post #7 for Donna A's idea)

These might get you started. Also check out the newbies thread in Pastel Talk, if you haven't already!

I'm very disorganized and I just throw them in random flat boxes without foam inserts. Of course eventually they all get dirty and look the same color so I have lotsa rice around paper towels to clean them up every so often. Throw them in a ziplock bag with a bunch of rice and tumble it around and they are clean.
