OK, for all you "current newbies", here are my first beads. I've been making beads for a little over 2 years now. These beads were from days 1 and 2 of my first class, which was the first time I even saw a torch.
C'mon, let's see everyone's early beads!!

What a KEWL thread, one I can really relate too:D
I've been told that failure can also be your road to success.

O.K., I'll share one more...only because I'm really good at this:D :D :D :D

Shirley, those are pretty good for first beads. I guess because you actually took a class! I got started on my own with out a class. Man, my first beads are scary. I'll try to scan some for this thread later.
Harold- you are so brave!

Oh no! This is embarrassing, our first beads. Amazing what a bit of practise will accomplish.
Ok, let's see the rest of your first beads, I know you all still have them!

Val, there seems to be a very big difference looking at your first beads and harolds first........... (now those are scary) maybe bead making is a woman thing?
07-08-2002, 05:17 PM
Oh, those were beads Harold was showing us! ;)
Yeah, I see what you mean! (hee hee)
Well...but look at his other glass works, they look pretty good for 'early work'!

I had to dig these up out of the backyard, but here are some of my first "efforts", might even have been the first day :)

Ahhh the beauty and innocense of newbie beads....Thanks for the reminders, Shirley. Someone get Anne and Harold a towel.
07-08-2002, 08:23 PM
Wow Lauri, those are fantastic beginner beads! Thanks for showing us your early work.
Who else has beginner beads to show? B2, I know you've saved yours!

Thanks Valorie. And your first beads are adorable gems as well. Glass is just sooo good.
07-08-2002, 09:55 PM
Geez, Lauri, beginner beads? Look at those bicones with the nice even ends - and the nice even dots. Sheesh! Very humbling (is that a word?) indeed!

Yeah well, the way I've been torching moretti lately....my beginner beads are looking better and better. I'm in a moretti slump. Hey! I made a glass funny. Slump. Get it?

You should see my first boro marble from a few weeks age. It makes the marble pictured here look like a gem.:(
Hey all, there are some really cool glass here. Harold I like your blown jar. I have a few boxes full of firsts, a couple items only go back a few days.
Mike, riding the learning curve, E
I shiver and shake to think what my first beads will look like. Glad to see this thread. What a relief it is to know I don't have to be perfect the first time out.
But, hey... I have to hand it to y'all. I would never show my first beads.
07-09-2002, 09:20 AM
I know many feel the need to disrobe in the dark but, it doesn't eliminate the blemishes...just keeps them out of sight.:D :D :D :D
07-09-2002, 09:32 AM
Easy to say Harold, but my first beads were made on a welding torch without any instruction and I can tell you that they look very different from first beads made in a class... so much so that you wouldn't know they were beads if I didn't tell you... I don't even recognize them now so I can't show them

Shirley, thank you for starting this thread! It makes the newbies (am I the only newbie right now?!) like me feel a little better ... though I have to say that some of the first beads 'exhibited' here are pretty good!
Love the captions accompanying the pics

Laurie- Those are not beginner beads! You are pulling our leg!

Here are a few of my pitiful first attempts. Remember I was self taught, I didn't have the benefitof a class at first. Please be gentle!

Amy, with your first beads and my first beads, we could make quite a unique necklace!:D I think those are great first beads, love the bright colors.
I'm self-taught so far too ... I have lit my torch just five times so far. But it's great to come here and to ISGB and learn from the pros, who have been sooooo helpful!
