Hi Everyone !

Just a brief intro, I know several of you from the ISGB forum, chat and Tucson so I thought I would dive right in since it feels comfortable !

I have been lampworking part time for a little over a year and I seem to stick with smaller size beads so you won't get to see any glorious focals (ala Mags) in my post. That all may change when I take Smircich's class in August !

Here is a set that I made using copper foils and white enamels, some transparents and some twisties - basically anything I could grab. I think they look great with turquoise and I guess I should make a set for myself next !

I hope I get to meet you guys at the Gathering in a few weeks, I am planning on driving up on Friday evening for Saturdays events ! Mags, have you got some money I can borrow ?

Debi

Hi Debi! Welcome to WC. I'm still trying to figure out how you got those beads from copper foil, white enamel, etc... They are wonderful!

I'm contemplating trying to take one of Jim's classes down there, too. My folks live in Charlotte and I've needed to visit for quite awhile...

Debi,
I love those beads! A nice combination of earth and sky tones, and wonderful textures. I especially appreciate that you've created a complete set, without once repeating your pattern/style on any one of the beads...no small feat!
More photos anytime!

Best, Valorie

Yay! The life of the party's finally here! It's Debi!!  (heehee)

Well, geezus, woman...who needs focals when you've got a fantabulous set like that one to wear!! I see right where you put the copper foil...but I don't see any clear encasing over it. My foil turns icky sooty black w/out encasement. You must be a miracle worker! (can you give us a hint as to your method? Pleeeease?)

Re: the $$...
Well, hon, since I'm pretty much tapped out at the bank, I figured I'd have to lug out the ol' penny jar for spending cash for the Gathering. I would be more than happy to share it wif ya. Got lots of pockets, I hope? Pennies are *heavy*! LOL!

Thanks everyone, if I could figure out how to add a link to my post, I could attach my Picturetrail album. I am not terribly computer literate :)

Mags, I will be right with you with that penny thing...........get ready Lauri, heehee

Mags, I have found that the secret to getting the black out of the copper is the white enamel. I apply the enamel before and after adding the copper (copper over enamel and then enamel over copper). The bit of black adds to the "rustic" charm of the beads maybe.

Margaretz, the copper foil comes in sheets like silver foil, I tear it into strips and then roll the bead onto the copper and flash it in the flame. It seems to burn away very quickly until the enamel is added. I have really gotten some great blues and greens with this combo.

I am spoiled after this nice long 4-day weekend, its back to work for me today

Have a great day !

Hi Debi,
Great to see you here! Thanks for the tips on how you use the copper foil. Those beads are so nice, the earthy texture makes you wish you could reach into the computer and grab one! I'll bet they feel is as great as they look. I just love texture!
