Title: Regatta in Grenada
Year Created: 2008
Medium: Colored Pencil
Surface: Watercolor Paper
Dimension: 7x10inches
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
I attened a gegatta and took pictures. I liked two of the pictures and decided to use them both.
The ladies liming on the beach looking out to sea
and putting in the second photo of the two boys
getting their boat in the water.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Does this work? Is the composition correct for depth and color? It was fun todo and first time I am using colored pencils and some watercolor pencils.

The hardest task in art is drawing full figures. You've done great. I have two suggestions:
The sail leaving the picture plane on the right is just complicating the composition. I feel you'll have a better painting without it.
And it's hard to get much contrast with colored pencils which are not usually employed for complete fine art paintings. If you try pastels or conte crayons, you'll get much richer colors and perhaps more successful results.

The composition is really good but like tgsloth said the other sail only detracts from the picture. The bright colors are very stimulating.

Thank you tgSloth and thomas w for your helpful comments. I actually put the extra sail in to try to balance the picture. But I wish I had scanned it without the sail and you would see why I put it in. 2003maryann

I think you would have been better off to leave that second sail out and move the group of women further to right to balance the centered boat of the boys. The other thing that might improve this is to add some sense of light direction.. perhaps some shadows? You have captured the livelyness of the day and love the bright colors. Makes me wonder what the women are talking about!

Thank you Crazywoman54. This is my first pencil drawing and next time I will try the activities without the extra sail and present it first.
